Trying Again after MVA

Hi I am just looking for some advice. We found out we had an MMC last week and I'm due to get the MVA procedure on Wednesday. We are really keen to try again as soon as possible as a healthy baby is all we want. We know it is possible to ovulate as soon as 2 weeks after a MC and I was wondering if anyone has any experience of being pregnant immediately after an MVA and it being successful? Some reassurance would go a long way during this tough time! Thanks x

I haven’t had a successful pregnancy after an MVA so can’t help you with that side of things. But when I did have my MVA I didn’t get a negative pregnancy test until 5 weeks later. And didn’t ovulate until another 4 weeks after that. So while for some women their HCG levels can drop quickly and they ovulate quickly, for others it can take a while so don’t be disheartened. I think it depends how high your HCG is and how far along you are meant to be.
I had my MVA at what should have been 9 weeks. I was having very very strong pregnancy tests. So it took a long time for the levels to drop.

That's so tough, no one ever prepares you for how dragged out the process can be. I hope you are able to go on to have a successful pregnancy soon 🌈

Thank you but sadly I’m too old now but for the majority of people they do go on to have healthy pregnancies so I’m sure you will too!

I’m sorry you’re going through this OP. I’ve had 3 early miscarriages and 1 missed miscarriage at 9 weeks, which resulted in MVA at the end of August last year. The tissue was being tested at the time, so I had 2 periods, one in September a couple of weeks after the MVA, and one in October. Our test results came back at the end of October and we’re all good, so we started trying again after my period in October and I fell pregnant straight away! I am now 17 weeks and baby is looking good!

Wishing you well OP!

@Grace2319 so sorry that you’re going through this. If it helps for some reassurance, I had an MVA in May, had a negative pregnancy test 2 weeks after that and then my period returned another 6 weeks after that. It felt like such a long time but I’m glad we waited until after the first cycle as I know I would have been really anxious if they hadn’t been able to date the pregnancy. We then fell pregnant that first cycle trying and I’m currently 31 weeks. I was so nervous we’d have recurrent miscarriages so hopefully this gives you some hope too! X

This is just so reassuring and such good news, thank you for sharing your experience! I'm so happy you have a healthy pregnancy now and I just hope one day my story is the same ❤️🌈

So sorry to hear you've been through this also. I had a missed miscarriage in November, slightly different as I opted for the surgical management. Op went really well, took just over 2 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test. Started tracking ovulation and I ovulated about 3 weeks after the op (so about a week after I got my negative pregnancy test). Fell pregnant that cycle, still early days for me but now 11 weeks and scans are all looking fine for now.

I was given conflicting advice from the EPU as to whether to wait for a period before trying again. My surgeon said it was fine to try as soon as we want, it's just for dating purposes. EPU said they would advise waiting for a period first. There was a bit of confusion when I initially fell pregnant again as they were unsure if it was a new pregnancy or not, I didn't get this confirmed until an early scan around 5 weeks. So just be prepared for this if you don't have a period in between! Wishing you lots of luck x
