I'm worried that my baby's too small at 26 weeks

Hi everyone, I had a scan last week and was told my baby was 500g but I've since read that she should be weighing 900-1300g by 28 weeks.
Is this OK? Does anyone know why some babies grow less than others? Is there anything I can do?
I am 6' tall, so its not the fact that I'm petite!
Any advice gratefully received.

Well, my experience albeit later in pregnancy, is that the obstetrician's "calculation" of my baby's weight was totally wrong. My MW sent me for a scan at 38 weeks because the height of the fundus wasn't where she thought it should be. The consultant obstetrician (yes, it was the consultant and not one of his juniors) scanned me and decided that I should be induced immediately because my baby had stopped growing and was probably under 2.5kg. She was born 36 hours later perfectly healthy and weighing over 3kg.

If you're not happy with the information you've been given, then contact your MW or obstetrician and ask any questions you didn't ask before. If you're still not happy with the answers, then ask for a second opinion.

OOOh I can't help I'm afaid but felt compelled to write as I too am 26 weeks but have not had another scan since 20 weeks. I've had my Midwife Appointment whereby she only measured my bump and I was exactly on target.

If your Doctor didnt seem concerned I wouldnt be, they have a habit of worrying you for no reason even at the slightest chance....

Good luck and i'm sure baby will be just perfect.

if the sonographer did not say anything about it and no remarks in your notes then i would not worry too much. babies grow at different rates and the further you are in pregnancy the arder it is to get accurate measurements anyway. i would not worry and if you say you are 26 weeks then by the time you are 28 weeks the baby will be 900-1300g if i am reading the thread correctly.

I told throughout my second pg that my baby was too small but was never given any advice what to do except "eat more meat". At 39 weeks I was measuring 6 weeks behind; numerous extra scans showed that the baby was not dangerously small but would be about 5-6lbs. The sonographers always said there was no reason to worry as scans can be out by up to a third. The MWs also said that if you are tall and thin, it is easy for the baby to measure small and it can also really depend on how the baby is lying (my daughter was breech for quite a long time). My DD2 was born at 39+3 weighing 7 lb 12oz.

Like pp, is the sonographer was not concerned then I would try not to worry too much, the measurements are more of an indication not an absolute.
