Fetal Doppler – When did you first hear the heartbeat?

I’m unexpectedly pregnant with my third, with a healthy and close pregnancy. With two little ones and limited childcare, we haven’t gone for a reassurance scan yet, but we do have a home fetal Doppler. I know opinions on these vary, and I only used it a handful of times in my previous pregnancies.

This time, I’ve tried finding the heartbeat early but haven’t had any luck. I’m currently 8–9 weeks and wondering—what’s the earliest others have found a heartbeat with a home Doppler? I’m a little worried I haven’t heard anything yet.

@RainbowTTC so bizarre that you would resurrect an old thread just to start this!

It’s hardly ‘old,’ I came across it after searching for a similar question wondering just how early people managed to find a heartbeat with their Doppler. I don’t want to try until I’m closer to 12 weeks but I’m simply curious how early people managed. Not really sure why I’m having to justify myself to be fair but there you have it.

It's over a month old and you chose to comment simply to start an argument with everyone else who replied.
You don't need to justify anything to anyone. I find it bizarre but if that's what you want to do, crack on.
The official advice won't change and replies based on that won't change either.

Ok doke, unsure any of my comments could be viewed as being the one starting an argument as I am not trying to convince anyone that their stance on dopplers is right or wrong, just replying to OPs actual question and you simply don’t like my answer which seems to be bothering you. Anyway, let’s not waste anymore time, have a nice day.

Ah OK, so we're gaslighting now are we?

You're unsure how any of your comments could be viewed as starting an argument yet you resurrected an old thread with the opening gambit that nobody else's comments passed the 'vibe'?
Yes, it's a total mystery.

Enjoy your day.

@RainbowTTC Definitely weird you restarted an old thread to argue with old comments!

Mamaof2xo · 22/03/2025 14:44

I don’t think it’s weird for someone to comment on a post that’s only a month old have y’all used mumsnet before people literally resurrect 4-5 year old posts at times lol.

I first found the heartbeat on my doppler around 10 weeks. Hope everything turned out good for you original poster xx

Genuine question, those that use them, how do you know it's your babies heartbeat and not your own, your placenta or another blood vessel?

Once you’ve used it a few times it’s quite easy to hear the difference babies heartbeat is fastest (can sound like a horse galloping or a fast train) placenta is more like a swooshing sounding slower heartbeat & your heartbeat is much slower x

I have listened to both through 2 pregnancies and genuinely can't tell the difference between the placenta and baby's heartbeat.

When I was at the midwife on Thursday my heart rate was high and so was baby's: the midwife said mine can affect baby's and sent me straight up to PAU. If I was monitoring that myself I'd never have known any of that.
