When/how do you get offered flu/covid jabs?

Hello 👋
Just that really. I have had a couple of scans at EPU and my next scan is with the midwife team at 13 weeks next Friday.
Would I be right in thinking at that appointment they can set up for me to get my vaccinations soonish?

It’s been a bit different as I was under the care of EPU and didn’t realise the midwife team are not connected 🙄 so I feel a bit in limbo with no idea 🤷‍♀️ of what is going on.

thanks x

With flu vaccine I just went to my pharmacy who offered walk in ones during winter (I was maybe 13/14 weeks). They didn’t offer the covid one with it so I haven’t bothered this time. I did have a very bad cold/cough over Xmas though no idea if it was covid but it was horrible.

With the whooping cough it’s any time after 20 weeks I think. I contacted my gp and had it last week at 28 weeks. My hospital offer a drop in vaccine clinic each week though at a specific day/time for whooping cough and rsv. You could ask if your hospital have anything like that for any of the vaccines?

Rsv vaccine is from 28 weeks onwards. I tried to book it for 27 weeks through my gp, and then my midwife said they might be strict and turn me away so I cancelled that appointment. I’m planning to visit the hospital one week for it.

Oh you should ask your midwife for an exemption form if you don’t have one already. For costs of the vaccine etc.

Thanks everyone!!! This is so helpful.

im high risk so automatically get the covid vaccination offered (I assumed pregnant women would be offered this as were vulnerable and I think we deserve it).

I’m so surprised we’re not offered them as routine for the first trimester, surely we’re a vulnerable group due to lower immune system.

I’ll defo ask the midwife next week. Thank you ☺️

I had my flu vaccine with my 12 weeks scan and my whooping cough vaccine with my 20 weeks scan, that's how my hospital does it

I flu and Covid at my 12 week scan and then whooping cough at my 20. At my last pregnancy when I was due in oct I wasn’t offered flu or Covid as wasn’t seen to be in season. I think they usually want these jags to be done by dec/jan in my trust to offer the most benefit but everywhere will be different.

I had my flu vaccine just before my 12 week scan, then last week at 25 weeks had my whooping cough vaccine. Having the RSV vaccine at the end of Feb at 28 weeks.

My hospital have a drop in room where you can get the flu vaccine at any time. You just call in within the allotted hours.

Covid needs to be via your local pharmacy/GP at my trust, but mine stopped offering the winter covid jab from 31st Jan which I missed, so next offering will be the spring set of jabs!

I had my flu vaccine with my 12 weeks scan and my whooping cough vaccine with my 20 weeks scan, that's how my hospital does it

That’s handy but I wanted my flu vaccine earlier than that due to the high levels of flu this year. I walked into a pharmacy and got it at 8 weeks.

2020N · 09/02/2025 16:31

I was told about them during my 8 week booking appt with the midwife, and advised when to have each of them, but wasn’t offered them (or any other vaccine, I was told to organise them myself). I booked my flu one via Boots as my gp wasn’t offering them, and emailed the covid booking system as again it wasn’t something offered by my gp. Whooping cough vaccine I booked in with my gp, and the RSV vaccine is offered by my practice so waiting on a letter from them at 28 weeks.

Hope that helps as it sounds a little different to what others have experienced.

I had my whooping cough vaccination at hospital while waiting for my scan. You didn't need an appointment and could just get walk in and get them if you were pregnant,I just happened to only be there for scans anyway. I did also keep getting texts about vaccinations and they said I could book in with my gp but they were only offering them oh specific dates. Same with rsv vaccination, flu and COVID which I had later. My midwife didn't mention vaccines to me until after my 16 week appointment.

sel2223 · 10/02/2025 07:26

Remember most of the vaccines offered aren't really for you, they're to make sure your baby has immunity when they are born. They're much more vulnerable then than when they are safely protected inside of you.

Mine were offered while I was at hospital for other appointments, I was literally approached in the waiting room and whisked off before or after my appointment.
Covid, flu and whooping cough, I had at the same time at 27 weeks, RSV at 32 weeks.
