I'm almost 14 weeks and have gained about 5kg so far which I know is quite a lot!

I'm craving junk food all the time. Like today it's only 11am and I'm already thinking about getting mcdonalds for lunch, when I know we're having friends round for a takeaway this evening. It's really not good!

Is anyone else like this? How are you coping? All this advice about healthy eating in pregnancy is going right over my head because I can't stop eating fatty, carby foods.

Don't be too hard on yourself. How about getting a range of healthy snacks in to help keep hunger at bay and filling up on protein and fibre at your main meals? Maybe malt loaf / veg sticks and houmous/ fruit / popcorn. Getting out for short walks too. Focus on what you can add to your diet to fill up and take care of yourself, focus on the positives, you'll be fine x

Could you try making your own versions of the stuff you’re craving? I’m also really wanting fast food, but luckily where I live there’s literally one place that delivers and places like McDonald’s are too far to drive and bring food back home (I have a toddler so also can’t easily nip out for a takeaway).
So I’ve been making things like chicken wraps at home, or chicken burgers, homemade pizza etc. It’s obviously not the same as the real thing, but it does help to satisfy that craving for a bit.
Also as above try to have more protein and fibre. I find if I have porridge for breakfast I’m less tempted to snack / be tempted by unhealthy foods. Greek yogurt with some fruit and honey has been a great snack as well - it’s filling and also gives a sweet hit!
I’ve found that in pregnancy I become a bit obsessed by food so it’s hard to not go crazy!

To make you feel better I had gained almost 8kg by that point. I started at a healthy bmi of about 22. I can see in my face at almost 30 weeks that I am no longer a healthy weight but there isn't much I can do, I eat fine with the occasional treat, my body just balloons.

My first pregnancy I put on 35kg. Lost it all by 2 years pp (this sounds like a long time but remember to give yourself grace when you've had a baby...). Pregnant again and feel much better knowing I'll lose it all again no problem with a healthy diet the second time around too.

Good luck to you.
