Hyperemesis hell

Hi ladies,

Pregnant with #2 (10 weeks) and the hyperemesis is back with a vengeance. Suffered badly with #1 but at least I could get away with doing nothing most of the time. Not so much the same luck when have a toddler running around this time.

Have tried every combination of first line meds with absolutely zero relief. The only time I get any relief is when I end up in hospital for anti sickness injections which seem to work well but as soon as home and back on the tablets it gets bad again?

Was put on ondansetron last time and likely will be the same this time around but it gave me a terrible headache I could barely function so not sure that's the solution.

Anyone got any meds/hospital processes/anything that worked??? I wish I could go to the hospital on a daily basis for an injection. GP won't do it in pregnant women.

Have you tried Xonovea? I think the GPs don’t prescribe it first line because it’s expensive but it’s the only drug designed for pregnancy sickness.
I was the same as you only ordansetron helped but the cluster headaches were hell. I hope you find a solution soon and are getting some help with the toddler.

It’s grim.
There seems to be a genetic part to severe morning ( all day) sickness, as mum had it and then me- it put me off having any more kids!

Goodness knows how one manages with a toddler - the dizzy nausea is so horrible.

I didn’t take any anti sickness meds - Some people use seasickness bands on their wrists ( a GP I saw used them) , but didn’t find them useful.

Hope you can find a workable solution.

Have you tried herbal stuff like ginger root and peppermint tea?
( assuming if safe to do )

Ginger root fresh can be very thinly sliced and put with honey and boiling water to make a “tea.”

It can help with travel sickness , but not tried for pregnancy personally.

I second the recommendation for Xonvea, it is a game changer for many. There is also a long-running (think years!) mumsnet support thread for hypermemesis, which I haven’t accessed in a while so hopefully someone else can link to it, but the camaraderie and understanding made all the difference. The charity pregnancy sickness support is also excellent, and I got such kindness on their helpline when I phoned them during the inevitable low moments.

On a practical note, do you have anyone you can get to help you during the day?

Xonvea has been a game changer for me. It’s stopped the vomiting but I do still feel nauseous 24/7.

It makes me tired but you take the tablets in the evening so I take them and go straight to sleep.

im 22 weeks now and been taking them since 7 weeks - no way would I have coped without them!

Try acupuncture… I was sceptical but willing to try anything second time round and it worked wonders! I had it weekly from 8 weeks to the end!
