Increased fetal movement

I have had increased movement from 12noon-3.30 today pretty much constant.

I turn 29 weeks on the Wednesday and am pretty sure of patterns. Lots of movement then around 2 hours later more.

Phoned triage and they aren't concerned and she actually said increased movements are not a thing and that the ward is busy so I wouldn't get seen for hours. She put me off coming in.

I don't know what to do.

If you're not happy, I'd ring again.

I rang maternity triage for increased movements around 28 weeks. I was told they take it as seriously as reduced movements and was asked to go in for monitoring. Luckily everything was ok but you should be checked for any change to your normal movements.

I would go in. Better safe than sorry!

I had this with my first pregnancy and they treated it as seriously as reduced movements. With my second they said they no longer consider it a concern, I went in anyway. If you are concerned always get checked, you are your babies best advocate

If you're worried go in and get checked - it's a no-brainer.
Of course increased movements is a 'thing'. The midwife was wrong.
Go and get checked.

I phoned with this today as well. Was told that baby moving more was never a concern. I told her that the nhs advice said differently. I even mentioned that I was concerned it felt like some sort of seizure and she laughed at me. This is my 3rd child - not my first rodeo. Thankfully movements have settled to their normal pattern now and I’m feeling calm about it but if it happens again I’ll be straight up there - nevermind the phone call.

Go in, be pushy. So easy to dismiss you on the phone!

It is not acceptable to be brushed off as they are busy. If you are concerned you must go in and be checked. Any change in movements needs to be checked. Good luck. This is the start of your life long job of advocating for your child as no one else will love or need to fight for them more than you.

I had this with my second DD, phoned triage and was told they would only ask me to come in for reduced movements and not to be concerned, they made me feel stupid for even considering phoning for that. She settled down after a little while but I mentioned it to my midwife a couple of days later and she was really cross with triage, she said that anything I wouldn't consider as "normal pattern" should be checked out and that increase in movement can mean distress as much as decrease can. Thankfully it didn't happen again but If you still don't feel like it's normal for your baby then I'd demand to be checked over.
