Hi I'm just wondering if you ladies go by last period or do you know when you ovulated. I know both but just wondering what you other ladies go by

First day of last period as that's what the midwives and hospital use x

Even if you ovulate later, they'll still use last period prior to daring scan x

Okay great thank you

What day did you ovulate on?

The general rule is to go by lmp. My exception to this was when I was pregnant with my son I tracked ovulation (ovulation tests and bbt) and ovulated on day 24. So I then said my estimated lmp otherwise it would have been 10 days behind and I would have worried about a potential miscarriage after my first ended in a miscarriage.

I tracked ovulation this time as well but I ovulated on day 17 which is close enough to just say my actual lmp.

At the 12 week dating scan they date you then on measurement anyway and not lmp for an estimated due date and they have been very close to my ovulation -14 days. Only been two days out both times.

18th/19th

As in day 18 of your cycle? It’s fairly close to your lmp, 4 days later than the typical day 14. I guess if you know how many day later it is then it doesn’t matter.

tiffxxx · 01/02/2025 22:02

No I ovulated on the 18th/19th

So 13th or 14th day of my cycle

They go by the first day of your last cycle and assume everyone ovulates on the 14th day.

I ovulated on the 10th day on the cycle I got pregnant, so I told them my period started four days earlier than it actually did so that the dating for my appointments wouldn’t be out.

If you know 100% when you ovulated then this is the most accurate - you need to add 14 days on to get your gestation.

Officially, the LMP date is used initially by midwives and other medical professionals as a guide to book in your appointments and first scan but it's only a guide and isn't accurate for a lot of women. It's based on a very average 28 day cycle with ovulation on exactly day 14.

Regardless, LMP date will be used up until your 12 weeks dating scan at which point you will get your official due date based on actual measurements. The LMP date will never be mentioned again.

I have longer than average cycles which can be irregular and LMP was not accurate for me. My official due date is 10 days different and I'm now 32 weeks.
