When’s your first booking appointment?

Hi Mums 👋 it’s my first pregnancy and I’m currently 10 weeks. I’ve not heard anything from my GP/GP’s Midwife to book my first booking appointment (I registered my pregnancy just before Christmas) or 12-week scan and am starting to get really stressed as everything online says I should have the booking appointment between 8-12 weeks but when I called the GP the other day, they said I wouldn’t meet with the midwife until 14-16 weeks. I’ve no idea what’s right or not and nobody seems to realise that as a first pregnancy I’ve not done this before! I’m in Cwmbran, Wales if that makes any difference at all. TIA, from a very hormonal worrier x

Hmm it does vary in procedure from trust to trust but you absolutely should have some form of contact with someone around now to get your 12 weeks scan booked in. I wonder if you've had no luck with GP's in terms of guidance on this that maybe you should call your local hospital that would provide the maternity care? They may be able to check on their systems if you are known to them but have not yet received a letter or guide you as to who to contact to ensure you haven't slipped through the net. If you go on the hospital's website and search for antenatal care and see what it says in regards to the process or if there are any numbers to call.

You should have had or be having soon a phone appointment to go through all the booking details, this should not be done at 14-16 weeks. I hope you get somewhere soon with it all!

At my health board it was 10 weeks (but was originally scheduled for 12 weeks - I sent a panicky email to the midwife and she had a cancellation so could book me in sooner. I was worried that it would be another two weeks after booking to get my bloods and I wouldn't be able to have the screening tests (have to be done by 13+6).

I'd phone your GP, say you're worried about not missing the screening tests and insist they book you in asap. Good luck!

Panicking has won! I called the GP just now after seeing your responses and have been booked in to see the midwife when I'll be 12+1, which seems to be ok in terms of NHS guidance. The ultrasound is booked by the hospital so just have to wait for a letter in the post. Thank you both so much! And breaaaaaaatheeeeee

I actually had mine yesterday at only 6weeks +2. I'm not sure if it's due to my age (under 20). Are you perhaps able to ring up? Try not to worry thought ! It will be sorted

Ring up the midwife * as I know you called the GP. Or perhaps research community midwifes in your area

I got a call from my midwife the day I turned 8 weeks, it was actually a bit eerie 😂 I got booked in for my initial meeting, in which she asked medical questions and took my blood. I've now been booked in for another blood test when I'm 10 weeks, and hopefully I can get my 12 week scan booked in that appointment 🤞
