One solpadeine while pregnant?

Hello

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant (literally this morning 😂) I get really bad eye strain headaches that stop me functioning, roughly two or three times a month depending on computer use/driving etc. I’ve tried everything to get rid of them, the only thing I’ve found that works - and works brilliantly - is one (half a dose of) solpadeine max. One is all it takes to get rid of it completely, a full dose makes me woozy and one just works perfectly.

Of course, I will ask my doctor/midwife but I wondered if anyone knows from experience if there is likely to be a problem with it? Should I prepare myself to have to be in a dark room for a couple of days a month? I need to function for my little boy so I’ll have to find a solution but I am hoping I can carry on with what I know works.

Thank you!

I took codeine on and off and didn’t have any problems. Solpadiene max is a much lower dose

Thank you! That’s what I was hoping to hear, it’s a very low dose but quite regular.

I’ll steer clear until I’ve asked someone myself but it’s reassuring to know that I don’t have to suffer for the sake of being over careful. I don’t know why it’s only thing that works. Tried full doses of everything else until I rattled, but just one of those is like magic for it.

Yes definitely speak to your midwife but I’ve always been told codiene should generally be ok. I think there can be problems if you’re taking it close to delivery but that’s something you can find out about. Although like I said, it’s a low dose anyway! I was actually in hospital at around 20 weeks and they prescribed me Oramorph (morphine)… if that makes you feel any better!

A one off is okay but not long term.

I was prescribed quite high strength codeine during pregnancy. The dose you are using is tiny compared and I'm sure will be fine

Thanks all. Last pregnancy, I found some previous ailments disappeared (replaced by new pregnancy ones, of course 😂) so I’ve half a hope that these headaches might do too. TTC stress could have been a factor as well so maybe I won’t get them. But great to know it shouldn’t be a problem if I get one on a day when I absolutely need to function.

Check with your midwife but I can't see that low a dose causing you any issue.
