Unexplained high heart rate

I think I'm just looking for a hand hold at this point, have no idea what to even think anymore

On Tuesday I went into a&e as I'm 35 weeks pregnant and having heart palpitations and shortness of breath/heavy chest when just resting on the sofa. I was stood in the kitchen for about 5 mins and started to feel dizzy and faint. I had my bp done there which was 129/96, an ecg that the doctor said looked normal, and bloods which also looked normal so I was sent home. Today I went to the antenatal unit as I had a 'leak' of some fluid. Test came back negative for amniotic fluid so happy days. While I was there my resting heart rate was sitting at about 136bpm on average. The midwife was worried and we couldn't get a proper trace for baby on the Ctg as the machine was mixing both of our heart rates as they were similar but I could feel him moving fine anyway so she took me off. My first 2 bp readings were high but finally my third bp reading came down to 121/77
My heart rate wouldn't come down and nor would my Pulse rate (pulse was around 138 consistently)

Midwife asked if I'm on medication etc which I'm not and she also asked about any symptoms like the shortness or breath etc which I told her about. Again she said she's going to get a doctor asap as she's worried (this midwife has over 30 years experience btw so obviously has seen the whole lot!!) i had a blood test to check organ function but the results wasn't back before I left. My urine sample has +1 protein and +2 leukocytes. Doctor came in to see me felt my wrist for a few seconds and said yeah you'll be fine go home now and we'll call you if the blood results show anything.

I feel completely fobbed off and worried tbh. Midwife said shortness of breath, heavy chest, getting dizzy etc is NOT normal😣I don't feel like my high heart rate is being taken seriously by anyone I've seen despite the fact I feel like complete shit. I can't even leave the house alone now as I'm worried I'll faint at any point😖
So despite protein, high bp, high heart rate, not being able to get a proper ctg reading of baby..I've just been sent home with no further action. I don't see my midwife again until Tuesday so worried something bad will happen between now and then😟 they think I may have pre eclampsia yet just sent me home before the bloods even came back?! Isn't that quite serious and poses a risk to the baby due to placenta failure etc

Hi OP, so sorry you're going through a worrying time and not feeling well. I think the simple answer is to just go back in. You know your body best and if something doesn't feel right to you then you need to go back in and get it checked out. Don't worry for one second what they think. Your baby is the most important thing in the world to you so taking up a few short hours of their time to ensure all is well is such a little ask when you think about it. Your health needs to be taken seriously and I think re-presenting is often enough to make them take you a little more seriously. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Could you have picked up a bug?
I had labyrinthitis once and it made my resting heartbeat shoot up to 140 going up to 160 if I moved. It went back to my normal of 90-100 afterwards.
I've never felt so ill, dizziness, feeling faint, struggled to stand up, nausea and more. It was awful.

I developed thyroid problems after having my first child (the pregnancy brought it on) which then affected my heart. Has your mum got thyroid problems? As it’s genetic….

-@remaininghopeful23 thankyou ☺️ I may call back this afternoon and jusr say I'm not happy with the care I've received?..

@Superscientist honestly I don't think so. I don't feel ill as such just dizzy and short of breath and like my heart is thumping hard and fast because it is!!😟 the blood test would've highlighted an infection if I had one wouldn't it?

@30STMK no known thyroid problems in the family so don't think it's that..

I feel desperate to just have this baby out now so I can see with my eyes he's okay, pregnancy is so incredibly hard🫤

I would say dont wait for them to call you about your results. Slightly different scenario but I had high BP from 36w, monitoring every 3 days, more and more medication needed to control. They took blood and urine every time to check for preeclampsia and said they would ring if anything to update me on. Well it did turn into preeclampsia but noone called me. It was only that I went into spontaneous labour 36hrs after the blood / urine tests at 39w that it was checked when I turned up at triage. Do you have an app where your blood results come in? If so, I'd keep an eye on when they come in and then call and ask for someone to explain the results to you - especially if any are showing as out of range.

@anonny55 Leukocytes in your urine would be signs of an infection usually a UTI or similar.

anonny55 · 30/01/2025 12:52

@CrispAppleStrudels on it now! Going to call them and make sure it's all fine

@Superscientist I had leukocytes in my urine last week too and it was sent to be tested for infection but came back fine..midwife said that discharge in urine can show up as leukocytes so it may be that. I just had an infection swab done yesterday too so that should definitely pick something up if it's anything
