Stories about going over due date

I was due on 24th January, had a failed sweep that day and booked for another one Wednesday morning but feel like it'll fail again and just feeling very deflated as I'm not having any twinges or feelings that anything will happen anytime soon.

What are your stories on going over? How many days and did it happen naturally or did you get induced etc? Is it normal to feel this fed up?

I'm unsure what my next steps are when I go to my midwife app on Wednesday, I'm 50/50 about saying not to worry about the sweep but then I'm thinking what's the worse that could happen? Or should I just ask to be induced so I atleast have a rough date idea.

First time mum as well for context

DS2 was born 2 weeks later than due date. They actually changed my due date, but he is the only one of my 4 DCs I was absolutely certain about when my last period was. I wasn't fed up, but I had to extend the loan on the TENS machine!
I had a date for an induction, but he made an appearance the night before. Labour was only a couple of hours long, once he'd decided to come he was in a hurry! He looked red and had a lot of body hair, which disappeared during the first few days of his life.

Due dates are so cruel. You have all this build up to a day and then it usually hasn't happened by then. My first two were 2 weeks overdue and induced, my third came naturally at 8 days over. Obviously there's lots of possible factors but 3rd time round I refused all sweeps and really to do anything that I didn't want to do. He came on a day when I felt really relaxed (I'd had some growth scans and they said everything was fine). And I do think that makes a big difference, do things you feel like doing and accept there's no natural way of 'making' a baby be born. And look up positive induction stories if it's something you're worrying about, you still have choices in inductions but very often you're not prepared for them. Good luck 😊

11 days over, sweep on day 10 and delivered on day 11 verrrrry quickly! If they say to go home and you don’t feel up to it, tell them you can’t cope at home. I’m so glad I did as she was born less than 2 hours later and home was a 1 hour around trip..

I went 2 weeks over with my daughter and I feel your pain, it's so frustrating to wait!

I had 4 sweeps, still no sign of labour and ended up opting for a c-section at 42 weeks which was a really positive experience.

No advice really but look after yourself- get lots of rest, warm baths, watch some nice films and get the oxytocin flowing! Hope it all goes well for you, OP.

My second DD was 2 weeks overdue so had to go in for the balloon, then had my waters broken. Once that happened I laboured naturally and had a great water birth. You’re near the end now - congrats!

HippyKayYay · 27/01/2025 21:28

My first was 2 weeks over. I'd declined the standard induction at (? can't remember - 10 days over? It was a while ago) and had another one booked for 2 weeks over. I went into labour a few hours before the induction appointment.

HeronWing · 27/01/2025 21:31

DS was born by CS at 42+3. We discussed induction, but given that I’d never dilated more than 2 cm despite being in labour over a weekend, it was very likely an induction would have failed, so I said let’s just go for a CS.

15 days over. Absolutely nothing happened despite sweeps on days 11/12 and pessaries on days 13/14. Got induced via drip in the end and it took about 6 hours. Due on 5th, born on 20th. Now a lazy teenager who does nothing fast!

Due dates are mad. Nothing in nature is that precise, why should everyone's pregnancy last exactly the same time? Better to think your baby is at term at 38 weeks and it's a month long window where you might need interventions if you get too close to the end.

I went two weeks over and those were long weeks!

itsallabitofamystery · 27/01/2025 21:38

Both of mine were evicted via induction, one 12 days late; the other one day early. I'll be honest and say my first induction was awful. I was in agony instantly and it went on for 14 hours. 2nd baby was 2 hours from start to finish, home just over 2 hours after delivery. My advice would be to have a delivery plan. I had no idea what my options were for pain relief, what they did to me and the baby, so I didn't have anything. I was a lot more informed for my second.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/01/2025 21:40

17 days late here. All over millennium. It was the longest 17 days of my life. DD2 was only 2 days late though.

Hope you get some movement soon op

Both of mine were a week late, and both came just after the second sweep. 4.5 hr and 2hr labours, no stitches. Don’t give up yet OP.

Both of mine came after the 2nd sweep too, only a few days over due though.

I’ve had 5 children and all were early bar my third. I’m convinced they got her due date off a bit as she was also a lot smaller than her siblings.

Had a sweep on my due date (Thursday), waters went early hours of Saturday morning but no contractions. Was supposed to be induced on Sunday but got to the ward and they had no beds. So I hung about in a side room in a gyn ward all day waiting for them to induce me. At 2.20pm I felt a bit sore, never thought anything of it. Asked if it was ok for me to walk along to the shops for some lunch and the midwife said she wanted to do my blood pressure etc first. Pain picked up within minutes, they examined me and I was crowning! By 2.40 I was holding her. Bypassed induction completely- and had my quickest labour.

Himawarigirl · 27/01/2025 21:52

I ended up 2 weeks overdue with my first, with not a twinge during that time. I had a sweep, possibly two, during those two weeks. They had booked me in for an induction the evening of the two weeks overdue mark but my dd decided to (veerrry slowly) get going that afternoon, so I didn’t end up having it. However I did have an induction with my third and it was still a positive experience, so try not to assume the worst even if that is what you end up with.
