Not feeling well... blood pressure

Hi ladies

So I'm 31+4, I've had some issues with high blood pressure and am on labetilol for this. There were concerns over preeclampsia as I have protein in my urine but all tests come back negative.

I'd say over the past week I've just felt absolutely rubbish. Constant bad head, dizzy spells, so tired, heartburn, nausea, sooo congested... you name it 😂 I just don't feel right. It's my first pregnancy so I'm not sure what is considered normal for pregnancy or not, and I know that tests come back negative for preeclampsia but I'm slightly concerned as I do have some of the symptoms but obviously I trust the midwives. Just looking for some wisdom if anyone has any spare?

Call your maternity triage for advice rather than asking on the internet.

Agree with the above but otherwise all normal pregnancy symptoms especially at the end.

Definitely call triage. I had high BP for three weeks in pregnancy which needed to be medicated with two different medications - labetalol and nifedipine. It did then turn into preeclampsia but the medication combination helped me to get to 39w before it did so. Explain you are still having headaches and so would like to be checked over. They are all normal late pregnancy symptoms but when you are at risk of preeclampsia, it's not worth the risk. By the end of my pregnancy, i was going to day assessment unit every other day for BP and urine checks plus monitoring of baby at the midwives instruction so they could catch the preeclampsia as soon as it came on. So they won't mind checking you over again.

I saw my midwife today and am at the maternity unit tomorrow. Just asking to see if anyone is going through the same, that's all. Thanks though.

Ah OK, glad you've been checked. Then i think you need to try and take some gentle walks which is good for BP and rest as much as you can. Sleep, no stress, eat well and take care of yourself. I ended up finishing work a bit earlier than planned to take care of myself.

I had similar in my first pregnancy from about 30 weeks and did eventually get diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks (my symptoms increased each week until then).
Just make sure to keep them updated and they can keep an eye on everything.

Otherwise, the above advice is good.

I had high bp from 30 weeks in my first pregnancy. I was on labitalol, then when that didn’t work nifedipine. By 32.5 weeks they said it was preeclampsia and they would try to get me to 37 weeks. My blood tests were getting worse each week but I felt ok. By 34+5 weeks I went in for a routine check and they wouldn’t let me out of the hospital until I had DS. Then I had him at 35+0 as emcs. It can change very quickly. I was ok until the morning of 35 weeks, DS stopped moving, I had no urine even if I drank a lot, I had swollen feet, hands (that happened a few days before), and DS heart pattern was a static line rather than zigzag. We were both fine the day before.

It’s good that they are seeing you, and it’s good to keep an eye on everything. Some people do just have a high bp without going to preeclampsia, but some do develop PE.
