Hi I have been told today at my 21 week scan that my placenta is covering my cervix? Anyone had any experience with this and will everything be ok,I'm a bit worried x

Mine moved. If it doesn't it just means you need a c section.

Some people never move and it's fine. Others it's caused bleeds and they've had to stay in hospital and have their babies a bit early.

Most move, like 90%. Of those that don't most don't cause problems. If they do, they know about it and can deal with it.

Posterior means at the back, anterior would be at the front.
Low down will need to be kept an eye on. It's no issue now but would affect things later on if it didn't move.

I had this in my last pregnancy- anterior and low lying (covering cervix with no gap). Mine moved by 32 weeks. They should hopefuly offer you a scan at 32 weeks to check.

The only other point is yours may not move up as easily. When it’s at the front the bump grows and that’s an easier way for the placenta to move. With the back I don’t know how that works. It could still move because the uterus is expanding but I don’t know.

The other point is look out for bleeding and contact your hospital if you have any.

It's all to do with how your uterus stretches. If you think about it the front part (anterior) stretches out more in the bump - so more likely to move. But, low down in the front is also where the c section cut usually is. They can work around it, it's fine.

Posterior (back) doesn't stretch as much, but is perfect to be out of way for c section.

Mine was posterior and moved so much the leading edge was just above babies neck by the end.

I had this and it safely moved out of the way by the time I was full term

I too have this, seen on my 20 week scan, completely covering the cervix. I have an appointment at the fetal medicine unit next month. I have an posterior placenta.
