Fibroids in pregnancy, should I be worried?

A little hand hold please, I have just had my 12 week scan, baby is doing great, thank god.

Due to previous retain placenta issues I asked the sonographer to check my placenta which she very kindly did. As she moved around the uterus she noticed to small fibroids measuring less than 1cm each. She didn't seem too concerned but my worry is that these would have developed during pregnancy. I had a fertility scan a couple of months before falling pregnant and they didn't mention anything then.

Just wanted to hear from anyone that may have experienced this. Did you go on to heave a healthy pregnancy and baby and did it impact their development in any way?

Thank you in advance.

Small fibroids were found during my second pregnancy , I went on to deliver healthy twins, there were no concerns. This was 8 years ago, and I've had no issues since either. I wouldn't worry x

Did they stay small throughout the pregnancy or change size at all?

How are your twins now, assuming their development wasn't impacted in any way?

I have one picked up on an early scan which hasn't grown or changed or caused any issues.
I'm now 30+3

I have big fibroids (the biggest at the mo is about 7cm). They found them for the first time at my 12 wk scan with DS1 and I panicked, the fibroid was bigger than the baby! Pregnancy was totally normal, only issue was they wouldn't let me use the birth centre, had to be on the ward in case of bleeding. He's 14 now. If anything they shrank during pregnancy as the womb stretched, and they weren't even mentioned with DS2 so they said I could use the birth centre that time but it was full so I ended up on the ward anyway!

Worth noting that I did retain membranes (not placenta) with both kids, and had in infection after DS1 so I had to have an extra procedure to ensure membranes were all out after DS2. Not sure if that was caused by fibroids or not?

Edited to add it had absolutely zero impact on their development. Good luck with your pregnancy!

If they had to look that hard for fibroids, they aren’t significant and won’t affect your care. They are easiest to see on the 12 weeks an.

If there are multiple large fibroids then you need extra scans as measuring your bump will not estimate the growth. If there is a reasonable (more than 4-5cm) sized fibroid at the bottom of the womb then that can sometimes stop the baby’s head from dropping.

She said 'there is one at the top and one at the front'

Not exactly sure what the front really means but hopefully not too low down.

I have a 10cm pedunculated fibroid (which i was actually thrilled to discover as it now makes sense why no matter how slim and toned I got i always had a belly pouch) ...I've been told mine, even if it continues growing is highly unlikely to interfere with growth of baby, all they have warned me about is chance of degeneration which can be very painful, and that it can bleed during labour so they'd likely want me in hospital with quick access to blood transfusion if needed. But honestly I'm not bothered about those risks as long as baby is fine. I think with the size of yours the risk is very minimal

I have medium-large fibroids (biggest about 6.5cm). It meant I went to the labour ward not the birth centre because there is a higher risk of PPH with large fibroids (I think they said over 5cm). In the end I had no issues at all during or after birth. If your fibroids are only 1cm I definitely wouldn't worry.

Twins not impacted at all, they are now 8 years old, and the fibroids haven't caused any issues I'm aware of. In fact I'd forgotten they existed until I saw this thread!

I also have multiple fibroids, the largest is around 11cm and is right on the edge of my cervix. I have planned a c section because of this, I’ve been told I am at high risk of bleeding but not much else has been said. I’m currently 35 weeks x

Thank you for all your stories you are all amazing and this is really helping me to think through what I may be walking into at later stages. X

OP @whitebynature I think you'll be alright hopefully everything goes well for you. All the very best and thank you for posting. x

@Kelly090
I just saw your post. How is your situation now with the 11 cm fibroid. Is your delivery ok and is everything good with you and the baby. Wishing you wellness and all the best. x

I am currently trying to conceive with DH since October 24. I had a fibroid scan 2 months ago the largest is 8 cm has hardly grown in the past 2 years (probably due a complete lifestyle changes I made with my diet): my cycle became regular also at 26 days. My uterus went from distorted/skewed to now globular (I don't know what that skewed/ globular means but I am feeling much better now).

I just had a 28 day cycle this month - perhaps another effective change and my uterus is liking this with a new seed- cycling routine which I took on about a month and a half ago, it's feels really great.

This month I started intermittent fasting to try to reset my body and activate autophagy to shrink the fibroids. Basically I am hoping to make my body dissolve them up through fasting up to 17 hrs or more in follicular phase when oestrogens is low before it peaks and 13 hrs in luteal phase. I just did my first 24 hr fasting today with ease. Hopefully this new fasting routine will reduce the fibroids in size (to anything below 5 cm) in size before I become pregnant, and I don't have to worry.
