When do you classify yourself as "very pregnant"?

This is a stupid question so please do feel free to send silly replies!

I'm 24 weeks and keep saying things like "it's ridiculous I'm this out of breath, I'm not even that pregnant yet!" and am being corrected by DH that I am in fact quite pregnant. When do you/did you consider yourself quite pregnant? I feel like I won't until I'm at least 30 weeks.

I don't think I ever quantified it. Pregnancy is binary.

Different symptoms can cause different issues and wax and wane throughout. So it's a bit of a meaningless scale.

MaltipooMama · 20/01/2025 11:21

Agree that it's so difficult to quantify it and is all dependent on so many factors. For example with my first, I didn't feel "pregnant" until I was past 8 months! I had zero symptoms, loads of energy and was still wearing the majority of my size 10 clothes. This time I'm 17 weeks and am already feeling it, been experiencing fatigue, backache and I'm knackered from working full time and spending evenings running around after our 14 month old 😂 plus I'm already starting to show so the whole thing is a very different experience. I definitely feel waaaaay more pregnant now than I did until my 8th month last time!

I would say I felt “very pregnant” once I hit the last month of pregnancy, before that I sort of had good days and bad days, but for that last month I just felt very very pregnant!

sel2223 · 20/01/2025 12:00

It depends what you mean by 'very pregnant'.....

if you mean as in 'today I'm feeling very pregnant' because you're uncomfortable and having a lot of symptoms then I'd say I've had days like that all the way through (especially in my current pregnancy). When my sickness was at it's worse or the heartburn was a nightmare or I couldn't get comfortable at night so tossed and turned for hours then I definitely felt very pregnant.

If you mean as in feeling heavily pregnant then I'd say in my first pregnancy it was about 34 weeks. My bump had finally popped, I was getting the first symptoms of pre-eclampsia so very swollen, no energy and just generally very heavy.
I'm now 30 weeks with my second and I'm not quite at that point yet but not far off - I've got the 'waddle' and getting more uncomfortable by the day.

I felt ‘very pregnant’ when I had visable bump and was struggling day to day with basic tasks. By 20 weeks second time round I felt like a breathless whale. 🐳

Jimmyspiano · 20/01/2025 13:30

When I could not fit behind the wheel of my car, and even my maternity clothes were too small. I have short legs and enormous babies.

MummaMummaJumma · 20/01/2025 13:38

Definitely towards the end, when I start picking up things with my toes 🤣

Tcsha · 20/01/2025 13:41

I would say when you are overdue!

MidnightPatrol · 20/01/2025 13:43

I think I was 36 weeks before I felt like I was seriously impaired by it.

An under-rated skill in my opinion, which still comes in very handy when nap trapped by my 9 month old 😂

LarkinAboot · 20/01/2025 13:45

I think it depends on the baby and how you carry - I was very pregnant with one much earlier on than the other.

Scentsitive · 20/01/2025 13:48

Very pregnant...probably 8 months onwards.

I have been tempted to pop it on my CV tbh. As well as being able to do most jobs with one hand ✋ and having ‘eyes in the back of my head’ 👀. Mums have incredible transferable skills imo.

I feel it once the bump gets in the way to reach my toes, or it becomes hard to bend down to tie my shoe laces. In my last pregnancy I didn’t reach that point until 32/33 weeks. This time I think I’m at that point at 27 weeks already.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 20/01/2025 18:22

I’m not sure about “very” but heavily pregnant to me is 34 weeks plus.

Borgonzola · 20/01/2025 18:54

The final month, something turns over. I'm 37 weeks with my second and everything is just a struggle. Partner is doing more and more and I find myself just wanting to stay at home and deal with things here. And I can't get comfortable, ever! So I'd say final month.

biscuitcat · 20/01/2025 19:01

I found it depended on the pregnancy - first time round, probably not till 35/36 weeks, but I'm 31 weeks with my third now and this past week I've just been totally done in and really feeling it, absolutely feeling 'very pregnant' (and dreading getting even more so!!). I think it's when it really starts interfering with daily life, so second/third/etc time that happens earlier as with young children life involves a lot more bending down, sitting on the floor, and picking things up than before!

When you do any of the following:

Fart getting off the sofa
Sneeze and pee
Fall asleep in a meeting
Snore so loud you wake yourself up

If you aren't doing those, you're still a glowing goddess.

fridaynight1 · 21/01/2025 04:10

When you get to 41+5 🙃 but anything over 40 would do it.

Editing to add the jealousy feeling when everyone else has their baby and you are still waiting. Wouldn't wish a premature baby anyone but 39 weeks would have been nice.

RickiRaccoon · 21/01/2025 07:06

I think at about about 6 months you're 'very pregnant' in that you're definitely pregnant. With both my pregnancies I found the last trimester fine and not too different to the 2nd trimester. I worked right up to the labours at 39w. It just affects different people differently.

Oh I have a gross cold and keep sneezing. And peeing myself often. It's a winning combination.

Also have a potty training toddler who is quite appalled that mummy keeps doing wee-wees in her pants. She's more potty trained than I am atm because of this cold.

I felt very pregnant once my bump had a physical effect on my life eg needing to prepare myself to stand up

I spent the first few months sick as anything but I didn’t feel properly pregnant until I had a bump and scans under my belt.
