Pregnancy thrush

I am 22 weeks and have had thrush on and off for a couple of weeks. It’s tolerable but the cream isn’t making it go completely so feel as though I need to give a pessary a go. I have read not to use an applicator but other than that it seems safe for pregnancy?

Do I need to check in with a midwife or dr first? Getting a gp app is an absolute nightmare as you have to call at 8am and are on hold for up to an hour. This is right when I’m dropping my other child off and rushing to work.

I would rather just give the pessary a go but also know I need to make sure I’m looking after myself properly.

I had thrush a few weeks ago (was 30 weeks pregnant at the time) and the hospital gave me a pessary to clear it up so it is safe. They also recommended not to use perfumed shower gels if you are using them already. Either femfresh or sanex are good x

that’s good to know - thank you!

I think that my daily bubble baths are to blame tbh.

You often need a course of pessaries for thrush in pregnancy so it might need a gp appointment

@BabyH01 Our GP surgery has the same phone at 8am system and it's a nightmare BUT I have called later in the day (10/11am), told them I'm pregnant and asked to be put on the doctor's call back list because (in my case) I've been in extreme discomfort or worried. Our surgery has a few appointments on reserve for vulnerable people (including pregnancy). Maybe yours does too? They don't advertise it because then everyone would try it.
