QMC Nottingham or Queens hospital in Burton?

Could anybody recommend which hospital is better to give birth at? I had my son at Burton with no issues apart from one of the nurses not listening about how much pain I was in after being induced to the point I had to give birth with no pain relief because it was too late. However the actual midwives who delivered him were great and aftercare. The only reason I'm considering Nottingham is because my family live there so it's better for childcare when I have appointments etc. Would I be making a mistake choosing Nottingham? I keep hearing negative stories.

Check the CQC inspections reports for each and decide based on that.

Surely if both these are an option then Derby would be an option too? The CQC report is better for Derby than either Burton or QMC (linked QMC below so you can see how to look this up).

Thank you for this I just had a look at all my options and the maternity section is shocking they were all red apart from city hospital and qmc, overall city hospital is the best out of a bad bunch according to cqc.

Sorry it wasn't better news! You may as well make an informed decision, and of course it won't mean a bad experience. You already had your son at Burton and said it was fine apart from one nurse despite the CQC report so you're proof of that.

The other option you could consider is home birth. Especially for second babies the data shows it's at least as safe and lower risk for lots of other interventions. It is what I am planning to do. But you've got to do what you're most comfortable with.

All the best with everything!

Nottingham has improved massively and is really making a big effort , has all the facilities and specialists and great NICU if needed

That's reassuring would you recommend city or qmc?

City's supposed to be a bit better

I've heard bad things about QMC, two of my friends chose Derby over QMC and were really happy. I had my two children at Derby too, don't know much about Burton though sorry.

Whereabouts do you live though? Burton is my local hospital, so I would consider Derby but never Nottingham. If you live anywhere around here you will know that traffic is generally horrendous a lot of the time, which could severely impact on both regular hospital appointments and possibly a very quick labour (it absolutely does happen second time around!)

So I live in Ashby so all the hospitals are about half hour from me, I was only considering Nottingham for childcare now that I have a 1 year old but the whole thing is giving me anxiety from what I've read along with the poor cqc ratings for all of them😭

Oh if that's where you live then Derby is only slightly further than Burton! I have several friends who live there and all of them chose Derby for their babies.

Ah if you're in Ashby then I guess the choices make sense. I don't know much about Nottingham maternity so can't comment there. I chose to have mine at Burton because various friends had a lot of issues at Derby, but this was quite a few years ago and things change.
