Hyperemesis with partial molar pregnancy

Hi :)
I had a partial molar pregnancy last summer and the pregnancy came with quite severe hyperemesis including hospital admissions.
At my 12 week scan they confirmed no HB and I had a D&C which was unfortunately unsuccessful.
My HCG levels then took 6 months to normalise and I have just been given the all clear to start TTC again.
The hyperemesis has traumatised me as has the MMC and unsuccessful surgery.
It had made me terrified to try again even though I am desperate for a baby.
Is there anyone that had HG with a partial molar pregnancy that went on to have a normal & successful MS pregnancy afterwards?

Sorry you've been through all that.
I can't comment on the molar pregnancy but my family are hyperemesis sufferers. I had it in both my pregnancies but my sister had it with her first and not her second, just 'normal' morning sickness which stopped around 3/4 months and wasn't anywhere near as debilitating.
Statistically you're more likely to get it if you've had it before but it doesn't mean you definitely will.
Hopefully everything goes well for you

I haven’t had a molar or partial molar pregnancy but have had HG. During my GP visits about the HG more than one doctor asks if it had been confirmed it wasn’t a molar or twin pregnancy as these are likely to cause HG. So, I would say because the HCG rises much more rapidly with a molar than a healthy pregnancy you might be okay. If not just keep revisiting the GP to change medication and have rehydration in A&E when needed, it’s awful but not forever.

Thank you for your replies. I know I sound silly. Just looking for some hope.
Thank you again :)

I had terribly debilitating HG in my first pregnancy, didn’t continue pregnancy, I was down to 6 stone, was skin and bone and incredibly unwell.

5 years later pregnant with DC1 and no sickness apart from the day I got a positive test.

5 years after that pregnant with DC2 and mostly manageable sickness, but lasted to around 17 weeks iirc.

7 years later pregnant with DC3 I had on of sickness all through the pregnancy, but was never as debilitating as the HG.

Final pregnancy was twins and I expected to get terrible HG this time and while I was sick throughout on and off it was manageable. It was the absolute utter exhaustion of carrying 2 that got me.

In between DC2 &3 I had a pregnancy that sadly ended at 10 weeks and I did have HG again that time.

Whilst the odds are more likely it is not a certainty that you will get it again. After my very first pregnancy I never would have thought I would manage another. The HG was incredibly traumatic along with terminating, it took me a very very long time to be well again after that so I totally understand the anxiety and trauma around falling pregnant again.

It might be worth talking to your doctors and see what they could maybe offer you in terms of medication should it reoccur again for you. I was never offered any medication (didn’t even know that it was an option) in my first pregnancy despite being so incredibly unwell I couldn’t even keep down water! Be prepared to push your GP because there are things they can prescribe to help and you may have to try a few different things before you find what works.

Hiya, I can totally sympathise as I also had hg and a partial molar in 2023. It was absolutely horrendous and one of the worst things I have ever been though. Being that poorly and going through loss, as well as all the months of follow up. My first surgery was also unsuccessful and I ended up having two. I’m so sorry you also went through that! It traumatised me to the point we didn’t try again for well over a year.
The good news is I am 15 weeks pregnant now and everything is going well, I won’t lie I have got severe nausea again this time and on meds but nowhere near as bad as when I had the partial molar. I have a 5 year old son and had sickness with him, but again nowhere near as bad as with the molar.
I was told having hg can be linked with molar/partial molar as hcg levels are so high. Although you are at a slight risk of having another partial molar after having one, the risk is very low still. It is very rare so although it’s scary just think the chances are everything will be okay.
Not sure where you are located but you should be able to self refer for an early scan in your next pregnancy, I phoned my epu and booked a scan for 7 weeks. My epu are amazing and also tested my hcg levels straight away. I did panic slightly when they were quite high at 5 weeks but everything was fine. They said they couldn’t 100% rule out another molar until around 9 weeks for sure, but can see signs before that, so I had repeat scans. Wish you all the luck and sorry again for your loss x

I had a partial molar and my sickness doesn't sound as bad as yours but was still pretty miserable. Had no heartbeat at 12 week scan and subsequent D&C where they diagnosed partial molar on histology. They hadn't seen any signs on the 2 scans I'd had. Wasn't allowed conceive for 4 months afterwards and then took 3 months to conceive. My second pregnancy felt different almost immediately, can't always put my finger on why, but felt more normal. Still needed some stemetil for nausea and retching in the early weeks but it was so manageable. Healthy DS now.
Anything molar is just so utterly terrifying topped with your HG it's a lot to try to process. If I can recommend one thing it's a pregnancy loss counsellor. A few sessions might be so helpful for you to hash out your thoughts and to give you the tools to feel confident to go into another pregnancy. Best of luck OP x

Thank you so much for your replies! I will look into a councillor. I’m so sorry you have had to go through this too. Hopefully one day I can get my head round it enough to try again like you have!
you have all given me some hope. Thank you :)
