subchorionic haematoma on scan

Hi, looking for experiences for those who have had a subchorionic haematoma on their scan. I attended EPU due to pain, they said I had multiple cysts one which was "leaking".. Likely that this was causing the pain. Baby measuring 5+3/4, I thought I was just over 6 weeks however may have ovulated late. They also said i had quite a big "haematoma" which is directly behind where baby/sac is.. They explained that there is a good chance of the baby coming away with the haematoma if it starts to shed however this will be "painless". Has anyone experienced similar?

I had a SCH at 6 weeks, it had cleared up on its own by the time I went for a private scan at 9/10 weeks. currently 37 weeks and it hasn’t returned or caused any bother since. hoping the same for you, fingers crossed for you x

Hi I had a SCH at 6 weeks which was significant and caused me to bleed for around two weeks. I was so upset but she is now 8 years old! Best of luck to you!

I had SCH with my 2nd pregnancy (1st was a 1st trimester MC). The SCH was large and above/behind the embryo. Discovered after an early scan carried out due to a bleed at 6 weeks. Unfortunately the follow-up scan identified a missed miscarriage.

I went on to get pregnant in the 2nd cycle of trying again, and carried a healthy baby to full term. I took progesterone from my positive test through to about 13 weeks.

I know of others who had SCH (including bleeding throughout pregnancy) and carried healthy babies to term.

I wish you all the best!

Mine was discovered at 6 weeks, at around 9 weeks I had a scary bleed with fresh blood and was terrified. It was then measuring about 5cm on each side, and described as large. I was just advised to take it easy, no sex and was given progesterone. It was smaller at my 12 weeks and I had a private 16 week and she couldn’t see it anymore. I know it is easy to say but try not to worry and I would say take it easy, I walked a lot less and did less housework and stopped carrying my nieces and nephews.

Thanks all interesting to hear everyone's experiences. I have had no bleeding as of yet, but EPU were very kind and told me just to contact them if I do and I can go back in. Trying to take things a bit easier and WFH until my follow up in a couple of weeks. Praying for a positive outcome❤

Hi @Friedseasalt I had a big bleed at 6 weeks. I was scanned and baby was measuring smaller than 6 weeks, yet our dates were clear due to IVF. I continued to have brown blood, then fresh red in cycles. Three further scans later and eventually a SCH was found at 9 weeks just as the bleeding had stopped. I was already on progesterone pessaries and injections. At 11 weeks the SCH remained at exactly the same size. I then started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) after researching this online and seeing promising studies. At 13 weeks the SCH had completely gone and baby was measuring spot on our dates. I'm 24 weeks now. You may wish to check out ALA. I truly feel it helped me. Hope all goes well for you😊 x

Hi, I had a SCH identified at 5 weeks. It was as big as the sac, which apparently is considered large. I was put on pelvic rest, had to stop all physical activity, advised not to travel, not to lift any weight and was also given progesterone pessaries as a preventative measure as this can be caused by low progesterone. I was also having scans every two weeks and each time the hematoma was a bit smaller, but I never had any bleeding. At 13 weeks it couldn’t be seen anymore and I was allowed to stop the progesterone and resume physical activity.

I live in Portugal and from what I understand this is not the course of action usually recommended in the UK, where there is a more wait and see kind of approach. I also remember reading somewhere that the risk of miscarriage is not necessarily bigger depending on where the SCH is in relation to the gestational sac.
