Is anyone else scared of not knowing what to do when baby arrives

First time Mum, here. My baby is 11 weeks old. I had no idea what to do with a baby when I had mine, as I’d never been a particularly maternal person, but in the hospital, the midwives taught me the basics e.g. feeding baby, burping baby, changing her etc. They do give you information on discharge too about babies crying, SIDS, safe sleep, etc.

The rest of the stuff I’ve had to learn as I’ve gone along. It’s basically a case of figuring it out for yourself. It’s sort of learning on the job, almost. Obviously, I’ve had advice from my parents, and my partners parents, but other than that, I’ve just had to get on with it. You soon get into a groove with things. And that’s coming from a woman who had no interest in babies whatsoever, and no knowledge of them at all.

It is scary, I know, but you will get there, and you can do it.

Second the advice given to date! You pick it up remarkably quickly. Our first nappy change took me (and husband) 15 whole minutes. Within a week, I was doing them in less than 60 seconds.

Yes, and I'm a second time mum - I feel like I've forgotten absolutely everything!!

Pretty sure I just winged it first time round anyway. It was the middle of covid, no antenatal or postnatal classes, no breastfeeding support, nothing. I moved abroad when DD1 was 8 weeks old and then didn't see any daily or friends for a year due to Covid restrictions. I think I just relied on random YouTube videos and the Internet (and MN of course)

I found online baby classes really helpful. Baby was… unexpected let’s say and I suddenly went into signing up for everything and reading everything mode.
The Baby Academy do some really good online baby courses.
There are also things like NCT and other in-person antenatal classes you can do. They are also a place to meet other local mums. They’ll cover birth and the early days, feeding, baths etc.
You’ll surprise yourself at how quickly you’ll pick it up though. Baby will be with you 24/7, it’s an intensive course, look at it that way!

I had just turned 18 when I had my first and you learn quick. You will worry but you will know exactly what you're doing it's our maternal instincts! ❤️
