Anyone used acupuncture or homeopathy in pregnancy to relieve insomnia/anxiety?

Hi ladies,

I am 29 weeks pg with #2.

Had pretty bad PND (anxiety/insomnia) after DS1 but completely seen off by anti-d's.

My sleep has worsened over the last 10 weeks and I'm now suffering pretty bad insomnia which is a nightmare .

I am very reluctant to go back on my anti-d's as I was on an older tricyclic (SSRI's don't work for me) and their safety record in pregnancy is shaky to say the least.

I am going to try acupuncture and homeopathy in a desperate attempt to get to 40 weeks without my anti-d's.

Any experiences/support would be appreciated

Thanks

Hello. I had accupuncture during both my pregnancies for god awful morning sickness, but because I had PND after DS1, I used it to help with energy levels and general stress during second too. I found it really good and really helped with all symptoms. I would ensure you have someone who really knows what they are doing though - use an accupuncturist registered with British Accupuncture Council, usually listed within Yellow Pages. I don't have any experience of homeopathy, but could also recommend reflexology as a way of dealing with anxiety. I've been having it since I had DS1 and I believe it's one of the reasons I've had no return of PND. Also speak to your HV/GP about some counselling.

yes - I lost my last baby at 21 weeks last year so was very anxious about this pregnancy. Have found accupuncture extremely beneficial . reflexology has been helpful to relax but not as much as the accupuncture.

I have been to a homeopathist -but it was about various physical ailments rather than pnd so I'm not sure how much help it can be- personally having tried all 3 if you are anxious/insomniac the accupuncture would be best (it helped me when I was like that in the early days after losing the baby).

Also therapy has been the most beneficial way of dealing for me (I may have a love/hate relationship with my therapist but I do think its help me get through this last year - just thinking it was a year ago yesterday I got the diagnosis abotu my son )
