Constipation

I know it can be pretty common in pregnancy and I have been struggling with constipation occasionally leading to a fair bit of time on the toilet straining.
This is probably the most ridiculous thought, as I know my cervix stops the baby coming out. But can the straining cause anything to happen to the cervix/baby/waters breaking etc

Nope don't think so. I'm 33 weeks and had this problem then whole way through. When it's super bad I take lactulose and load up on weetabix and berries which does a super job.

Had my cervix checked not to long ago as I had spotting, cervix was long and shut!

I have though, had a terrible tear from straining which was litterally blood clots free flowing out! Every time i sat on the toilet it split back open!😅

@Beccaa123 I have had the same thought and also seem to get cramping after a BM. I had some spotting at 5 weeks and mentioned the constipation to the EPU nurse and she put me on Movicol which has been excellent. The only issue now (at 10 weeks) is that it makes me vomit so have been unable to take it. Definitely call your GP and get a prescription if you can stomach it xx

Thanks both!
I see my OB at the end of the month, so if it doesn't get bad again before then, I will mention it to her there.
Honestly, the things that go through my head since I've been pregnant 🙈

Chia seeds in smoothies and pears have been super helpful for me with this issue 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wish I’d been more proactive AFTER the birth last time around. Will def take some lactose this time afterwards!

I worried about this too!

I've found having Weetabix for breakfast and raspberries as a snack keeps me regular. You can also try putting your feet on a step/stool when you are on the toilet.

Please don't strain on the toilet. It won't hurt the baby but can cause you things you definitely don't want!

Kiwi skin, prunes, chia seeds, get some lactolose if needed. Don't spend too long on the toilet and put your feet up on a stool (knees higher than your hips).
Magnesium supps help me too.

It's horrible I hope you get some relief soon.
