Private scan at 6+2 days?

Has anyone had a scan this early, did you see anything? Or should I hold out for the next appointment which is a week later so I will be 7+2...

I’d hold off incase dates are off and it causes unnecessary panic for you. I’d probably wait till after 8 weeks if you can. I had a private scan at 10 weeks and was lovely ☺️

Are you 100% sure of your dates through physically tracking ovulation or is this just going from LMP?

I had a scan when I should have been 8+2 but I have long and irregular cycles so baby only measured 6+1. Luckily I saw an embryo and heartbeat but it's not guaranteed that early on.

If you are even slightly out with your dates then there won't be much to see - maybe a yolk sac and fetal pole at most - and it normally causes more anxiety than anything else.

It is better to have a scan after 8 weeks as there is a lot more to see plus the risk of MC drops significantly once you have seen a healthy heartbeat after 8 weeks. Weeks 6-8 are still high risk in pregnancy so even if you do have a successful scan at 6 or 7 weeks, it can't really provide much reassurance.

A lot of places won't even scan you before 8 weeks unless there is a medical reason to do so

I had a scan at 6 weeks 3 days and was able to see a tiny blob with a heartbeat. The scan was private and abdominal. It gave me peace of mind as I had some spotting and was sure it meant bad news, thankfully everything was ok. If I hadn’t have had the spotting I would have waited a little longer for first scan x

Thanks all, I was tracking my cycle, ovulation etc so dates should be fairly accurate. I previously had a traumatic ectopic pregnancy which resulted in surgery, haemorrhaging and sepsis so my anxiety is fairly high at the moment. It was more to just check that everything looked in the right place. I will try and hold off to closer to 8 weeks!

I think hold out if you can. The difference between 6 weeks and 8 weeks is amazing. I held out on having an early scan until I was exactly 8 weeks and it was worth it!

HopefulllHolly · 10/01/2025 11:31

I’d hold out. There’s also a reason that scan clinics won’t scan you with a gap of less than 2 weeks between. I had a scan at 7 weeks (IVF) and it was only just visible with a heartbeat. If I’d gone earlier I would have been left filled with anxiety.

Bessienol · 10/01/2025 13:57

I would go get a scan.
ive had two miscarriages the second pregnancy I went for a reassurance scan and had miscarried and so glad I found out and then could know. Otherwise I’d have been thinking for weeks I was still pregnant as it was a missed miscarriage.

How would you feel if you found something normal for the gestation but no heartbeat?
If that would cause a lot of anxiety I'd wait a week.

I had an early scan at the epu due to a previous loss and they didn't want to book that in before 7 weeks. I had it at 7+3 but only measured 6 weeks with a heartbeat but subsequent scans showed a loss.

MaltipooMama · 10/01/2025 14:18

If you can bear to hold out until 8 weeks I would do that as it is so much more real than the little bean you will see at 6! Having said that, I unfortunately was not one of those people and had both my pregnancy scans at 6 weeks on the dot!

MaltipooMama · 10/01/2025 14:19

To add, part of the reassurance for me at 6 weeks was to check that the baby wasn't ectopic which they were able to do. Also to mention, my first pregnancy the heartbeat was visible at 6 and the second one wasn't, they brought me back in at 8 weeks and it was fine
