PROM and bleeding during labour

Reminiscing on the birth of ds2 and have often wondered what caused the bleeding during labour (I know I should have asked!)

Was booked in for c section and woke up feeling damp with a bloody show the week prior. Called the antenatal unit who said to monitor for any more fluid. Following morning woke up with the same dampness so rang up again and they told me to come in. I think they thought I was pulling a fast one at first as they checked my cervix which was fully closed but a doctor did a swab which showed my waters had gone.

Started getting painful contractions every 2 minutes shortly afterwards while still in hospital so they did an internal examination where I was 2cm dilated. During it I felt a small gush (thought I’d wet myself at first ) but it was blood. Midwife ran out to get the doctor and next thing I knew they were inserting a cannula and rushed me in for an emergency c section.

I do recall my blood pressure went very high and after ds was born (thankfully healthy) they were going to check my placenta but nothing more was mentioned about the bleeding. I looked back at my notes which just say PROM but they seemed to panic when I started to bleed.

Was wondering if anyone else had experienced similar? Did wonder if it may be a placental abruption but surely that would have been mentioned? Any input appreciated!

I had a similar experience with a big sudden gush of blood. It worried me but the midwives didn't seem to be that bothered about. But they were very distant generally and I felt very unheard throughout until the baby's heart rate dropped and we got rushed into the operating theatre for a c section.

Like you I never really found out why or if it was an issue.
In earlier scans they were worried about a fibroid and if it might be in the way and I've always wondered if it was that.
