DP and I are going on babymoon and belated honeymoon, and I will be 28+5 weeks pregnant at the time of flying (8 hour flight to a hot climate).

Just wondering if anyone can share their top tips for holidaying while pregnant - from travel to suncare to anything in between.

Thanks in advance!

I'm flying to a hot country at 20 weeks now and same 8h flight.
I would say main thing is to keep well hydrated and out of the midday sun. I will use sunscreen as usual and depending on country if there is dengue etc you would want to use a good mosquito repellent.

Travel insurance that covers pregnancy.

I love those little Evian bottles of thermal water to spray on the face if I'm feeling hot/bothered!

Also take breaks on the flight to walk up and down to keep the circulation going.

Enjoy your trip!

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and have just returned from a 3 week trip that involved a 15 hour flight and a very hot destination.

Top tips are:

  • Wear compression socks and shoes that are easy to slip on/off on the flight
  • Get an aisle seat so you can move around easily
  • Do heel raises/ankle exercises regularly and get up once every hour or two for a walk on the flight
  • Drink plenty of water (on the flight and once there)
  • Check with your travel insurance that you're covered for any pregnancy issues
  • Check fit to fly form requirements as some airlines are specific around dates that they were written - can easily get one online if you have no complications though
  • Stay out of the sun in the hottest parts of the day and wear plenty of suncream
  • Bring your maternity notes with you, just in case
  • If you're in a resort that won't have easy access to a pharmacy, I'd recommend bringing heartburn medicine as I developed it at 29 weeks and it was a lifesaver when I could get medicine for it!

I was quite nervous before going but it was totally fine - have a great trip!

I took a 5 hour flight just me and my 4.5 year old a few weeks ago at 26 weeks and all was fine.

Just stay hydrated and they do recommend you take flight socks although I completely forgot. Depending on how you're feeling symptom wise you might want to take certain snacks / heartburn tablets / pick an aisle seat for frequent toilet visits.

Definitely make sure you have travel insurance and check if you need a fit to fly.

Once you're overseas just use common sense - I lived in 40+ degrees while pregnant and with a newborn baby as many many women around the world do. Stay hydrated, stay out of peak sun, be aware your skin may be more sensitive than normal, be careful of certain foods and ice in drinks.

Enjoy your holiday.

I'm 38 weeks now but have done a lot of flying/travelling this pregnancy.

The other posts have some really good tips so definitely read those. Adding my top top top tip though... buy one of those small fans from Amazon!! They are cheap - about £15 and are rechargeable. They are amazing. Particularly on flights - aeroplanes always seem to be so hot when they are getting ready to take off (i.e. before they switch on the aircon). Once we were stuck on the runway for an hour in a stuffy plane and my little fan was a godsend. The fan will also be useful to have in your bag throughout your trip.

Definitely also the tip about getting an aisle seat... you will want to be up and down stretching, going to the loo etc. Paying extra for it would be worth it IMO.

Take paracetamol and any other regular meds with you. If you need to take it it's easier than trying to work out what you are allowed to take in a foreign country/language.

Use common sense with food to avoid food poisoning where possible.

Extra SPF. Your skin is more sensitive to burn when you are pregnant.
