Sickness

I am 7 weeks pregnant and suffering really bad. For the last 2 weeks, every waking moment of my life I feel like throwing up. I can't handle any food, I can't even go outside. My life basically feels at a stand still. I've tried ginger and mints, no help. I've tried having a snack when I wake up, or before bed, no help. I've been prescribed sickness medicine, still no help. I'm worried I'll be stuck like this for months. I wake up every hour with painful cramps and the extreme urge to vomit.

Go to your gp. They can prescribe anti sickness tablets. They will also help with nausea.

Go back to your GP and say the meds aren’t helping and they may prescribe you different ones that may be more effective.

I found that tablets helped slightly but caused extreme exhaustion. The sickness was gone by 13 weeks both times, it was such a hard time, I really hope it passes soon for you or the medication works wonders!!

The first medication I tried didn't help either, I spoke with the pregnancy sickness support charity who were great. They said if it doesn't work after 48 hrs try something else, the ones I'm on now help but do make me feel more tired so I'm balancing it so I can semi function through the day but do feel a lot more myself!

It's absolutely brutal isn't it.

The only consolation I can give is that it doesn't last forever, even though it seems never ending right now!
My first pregnancy it improved a lot around 14/15 weeks, second pregnancy it lasted longer till about 20 weeks. I'm 28 weeks now and still have occasional sickness but only once or twice a week now which I can manage.

You just have to do whatever you can to get through the worst of it. The most important thing is to avoid becoming dehydrated so tiny regular sips of fluid that you try everything to keep down.
Food wise, don't worry too much about nutrition just yet, anything is better than nothing. It may be a few crisps, a dry cracker or toast, a bite of melon or pineapple etc.

If it's absolutely debilitating and you are throwing up all day every day, you may have HG. If your anti sickness meds are not working you can get them changed until you find the best one for you.

Go back to the GP you might need a different antiemetic or multiple antiemetics

I struggle with sickness in pregnancy and have had cyclizine and prochlorpreazine on their own which didn't do a lot but in my last pregnancy I had metopramide and cyclizine and that was more effective.

I've been prescribed the medicine, it didn't help.
