Just wanting to see if anyone has any tips to help me? I am 16 weeks and for over 20 hours i have had HORRIFIC trapped wind. Like absolutely agony - i have given birth before and if i was 30+ weeks i would have 100% taken myself to hospital and said i’m in labour help. Obvs i know i’m not and it is trapped wind, i have been constipated for over a week and managed a small bowel movement in the night which i thought would help, but it’s not!! I have tried legs up to my knees and light belly massage (but this makes me anxious with the bump now)

What else can i do!? The pain really is so sharp it’s unbelievable

Peppermint oil is given to ladies after c-sections. I had trapped wind and was shocked at how painful it was. I almost scoffed at nurse suggesting peppermint oil, but it worked very quickly.

Not to put worry in your mind but if it's that painful and lasted so long is it worth going to hospital if it doesnf resolve soon? I know it might be a tad embarrassing to be told it's just trapped wind, but more serious issues like obstructions, hernias, bursts cysts etc can feel like trapped wind, and these issues are more likely to occur in pregnancy.

It most likely is trapped wind, and if so when I've had it the only relief I got was walking around, and frequently changing positions. But maybe have a point where you do seek medical advice, just in-case? Like 24 hours or something.

Best of luck

Where is your pain?

I was told in A&E while pregnant that I had "trapped wind" but it was actually my gallbladder and was the worst pain I've ever experienced. Gallbladder issues can start in pregnancy I think.

I'm fairly sure you can take things like Windeze while pregnant as they go straight to your stomach and don't enter the bloodstream. Have you tried anything like that?

Goingncforthisone · 05/01/2025 09:18

Are you sure it is trapped wind? I am wondering about your appendix...

If you are definitely sure it's trapped wind I would recommend peppermint tea, prune juice and lots and lots of water (min 2L per day). I used to suffer with terrible trapped wind with all 3 of my pregnancies and I've also had 3 c sections and the trapped wind is even more horrific, so I feel for you. I also used to stick my bum in the air (face down) for at least 10-15 mins and also do a figure of 8 movement with your hips to try and get it moved along. The constipation will absolutely not help so get yourself some laxatives from the doctor.

Thanks guys i have peppermint tea actually
so will try this! I was actually going to just go to hospital even though i do think it’s trapped wind to get checked - and i’m completely snowed in!!! honestly typical. So i’ll try other reccomendations but i think i’ll give the MAC unit a ring anyway just to see if they too have anything i should try!
Its agony and even with passing little bits of wind doesn’t seem to be going 😫
