First trimester feeling awful

I'm so happy to be 9 weeks pregnant after a long time trying, but I feel absolutely terrible.

I just can't engage my mind or body in anything, even reading a book or going out for a walk feels like a massive struggle, my back is aching, I feel nauseous and tired and I'm starving all the time.

How is everyone coping with this? Any tips??

Luckily I'm not in work until Tuesday but I'm dreading it and no one there knows yet.

No tips unfortunately - the first trimester is absolutely brutal and don't think anyone is ever prepared for it.
All you can do is take one day at a time and remember it's not forever. It does pass and will be a forgotten memory once you've got your little bundle in your arms.

Feeling very similar at nearly 8 weeks. I feel like I could nap most of the day and still need to sleep at night. It's like feeling hungover 😅

Definitely prioritise yourself including rest. Say no to things where needed and possible. At least there are a lot of bugs going around so you can blame that and fatigue following it. If you have a trusted manager then I wouldn't be afraid to let them know if the situation allows - my manager has known throughout all of the fertility treatment journey and put things in place to make things easier for me where possible.

Hang in there, it's awful and quite lonely ❤️ Agree with pp about telling your manager - I was always either throwing up or falling asleep at the keyboard so couldn't have got through the first trimester without telling her!

Fwiw, I was peak miserable at about 9 weeks, I think because I was still so tired (and tired of throwing up). I couldn't do anything I enjoyed (running, sewing(!), eating without throwing up, concentrating on a good book or programme). I was also constantly a little bit worried of a loss and the 12-week scan, and worry is exhausting.

My symptoms are still hit and miss but the tiredness has eased off now at 15 weeks so I can do some of those things.

Although I'm hardly leaping about like someone in a yoghurt advert, I think it's given me a bit more resilience to not feel as shit. 🌈 Hopefully you'll start to pick up a few things you've had to drop recently and you can feel more like you rather than a zombie!

I am so with you!! 9.5 weeks pregnant and really struggling with fatigue and nausea! I've been prioritising myself and have declined a few social things that weren't essential.

I mostly work from home so have been able to sneak in naps at lunchtime. But I did speak to my manager at work to explain that I'm pregnant, finding first trimester symptoms like nausea really tough, and that I wanted them to know for support but would appreciate if they didn't share further as it's early on. They were incredibly supportive - for example, I was able to send someone else to an in person meeting in my place which was a huge relief not to have to tackle all the train travel while feeling so sick.

I've heard that things can get better in the 2nd trimester so keeping my fingers crossed!

I think we can be incredibly grateful for being able to grow a little bean, but still find things tough! 💕
