Snacks to keep up energy?!

I’m currently pregnant with our second baby, just over 8 weeks. I suffered a lot over Christmas, I didn’t keep food down for around 11 days in December and very nearly ended up in hospital for Christmas, my doctor gave me a different pill to try as the first one he prescribed didn’t work.

I’ve been able to keep food down now since Christmas Day and have only been sick once. I feel somewhat nauseous still but will take that over being sick constantly. The pills make me quite drowsy, as the doctor said they might, I was just wondering what snacks or foods I can eat that will hopefully help me feel like I’ve got more energy - if that’s possible? I quite like things like fridge raiders but I’m looking really for suggestions on healthier things or even just anything that anyone might’ve found helpful to give them a bit more of a boost. If this is just the side effect of my new pill then I guess I’ll have to just try and get on with it, but I’m feeling so tired throughout the day that I feel like I’m a drain on my husband. He’s picked up the majority of the housework and is near enough solely looking after our 18 month old son, I feel like a lazy lay about not really having the energy to do much after getting out of bed 😢 I try to do bits here and there but I have such little energy, I’m tired after doing the bare minimum!

That sounds really hard. Remember you are doing something - you're growing a new human so don't feel bad.
Things like flapjacks really help me keep my energy up if I've got a lot on. Homemade are best but supermarket ones are good too.

Jaffa cakes and cheerios helped give me a boost, but I’m not sure either of them count as “healthy”. I also ate a fair amount of cheese and marmite sandwiches - I really craved salty things and it felt better than processed meat.

Thank you guys! Will give those a try too. At this point I think I’m willing to give up on looking for super healthy ideas, I just feel like I need something that’s going to give me more energy than I currently have 😢 I feel so bad about just being so tired, my husbands been great but I can see it’s been super tiring for him too having to do so much with the house, dogs, our toddler and also looking after me, he’s been a gem 🩵

I’m really willing to eat anything at this point if it means I can do more than sit on the sofa 😂

At 8 weeks pregnant and given what you’ve said, if I were you I would give myself a few weeks of broadly eating whatever I could stomach, and not worry too much about how healthy it is. Once you’re feeling better you can knuckle down on eating more nutritious food.
Some foods I was ok with: oats (porridge; oat cakes), rice, baked beans, omelette, cheese, ham, baked potato, mango, grapes.
I doubt the food will make your fatigue disappear, but it’ll help you overall. And don’t feel too guilty about your husband- you’re literally growing ears and a spine!
