Flu at 31 weeks, feeling better but paranoid

Was under the weather saturday and took myself to bed then it hit me out of nowhere. Cough, chills, body aches. Struggled to get out of bed. I’ve had my flu jab so was surprised to be hit so hard.

My midwife has been away and not back until tomorrow, I have a phone catch up with her tomorrow morning and the baby has remained active so I figured I’d continue with rest and doing my best at home.

Yesterday I had a temp (38.2) which came down with paracetamol and again today (38.1), again came down to normal with paracetamol.
I’m feeling much better although still pretty rough. Coughing still hurts like broken glass on my chest and throat and aches the muscles either side of my belly, but thankfully it’s only intermittent and less dramatic than yesterday. Mostly mucus is clear with occasional yellow phlegm bits (sorry TMI).

I wasn’t too worried because although I had a horrendous 48hrs, baby remains active and with rest, paracetamol and plenty of water I am now starting to feeling better.

But I googled flu and pregnancy and read that it can cause all sorts of problems including stillbirth and am now panicking.

My mum has told me not to worry so much. She reminded me I had covid quite badly whilst pregnant with my first (was untreated as it was the early days where hospital protocols were disjointed and unclear) and she is absolutely fine.
But it feels impossible not to worry!

Not sure what I can do to ease my mind right now until I speak to the midwife in the morning.

I also had Covid during the later weeks of my last pregnancy. Baby was totally fine.

Try not to worry - I know it's easier said than done when carrying the little one. You can obviously still talk through your concerns with your midwife for some further reassurance tomorrow.

@justmyluck1234 thank you, I know you’re right. It is just paranoia. Baby still moving about and I’m sure the complications are just if the flu continues and gets worse which it hasn’t for me so far. I’m going to try and get some sleep and then speak to midwife in the morning.

Sounds like you are through the worst of it. There is loads of flu around and every winter I’m sure the majority of women exposed do not have complications. Some women get very ill which is why it is advisable to get the flu vaccine.
It’s horrible being sick when pregnant I’ve just been through a horrific vomiting bug. I’m only 16 weeks but it really took it out of me.

@Cornflakes123 Im sorry to hear you’ve not been well too. Hopefully you’re feeling better too. I do feel a lot better thankfully and after speaking to my midwife my kind is at ease. She did say stats online tend to include women who end up with complications from flu or admitted to hospital and so includes a lot of extremes. She said baby movements are reassuring.

The thing about the flu jab is annoying because i’ve had it recently but long enough ago to have kicked in properly. Hence I was really surprised it hit me so hard!
