Working with nausea - fit note

Hello, I hit my 6th week recently and I had been fine before this, tired and a bit nauseous but nothing too bad. Suddenly, I felt like I had been hit by a truck. My stomach can't settle. I haven't physically been sick yet, but I'm constantly feeling like it's going to happen. I always feel like I've ate too little or too much and can't find the balance. So far, I'm living off of toast, crackers, pasta, chips and rice. The most plain diet of all but it's all I can really bring myself to eat, with the added fruit and veg I'm forcing down for some nutrients.

I work in quite a big warehouse. It's split into 2 sections and the section I work in is on the first floor. The toilets are on the ground floor and at the end of the warehouse, so a bit of a trek. If you end up on the top floor needing the toilets, it's a good 5 minutes walk at least and 3 flights of stairs down. My work knows about my pregnancy because I needed the risk assessment done, so they've mostly had me on the first or second floor but it's still a while to the toilets if I feel like I'm gonna throw up. As well as this, I'm on my feet for 8 hours each day. Sometimes I can hardly stand up 5 minutes just for a shower. They have put me on lighter duties, but there's only so light it goes, and I'll still manage 10-15,000 steps on a day at work. This is on the light duties, on normal duties I can do 25,000 a day.

All in all, work is physically demanding and I am utterly exhausted. I do feel like I'm being a bit dramatic, but really I feel bad. I took this weekend off because it was the first time I had to sit by the toilet because I genuinely thought something was going to come up, but I'm considering taking some more time off. It would mean getting a fit note but do you think I could get one easily enough? I haven't even had my first midwife appointment yet. I know I'm going to have to power through at some point, but if I could just have a little while to feel normal and get used to it, and figure what's best. I've since found I'm often worse in the evening, so I might ask to change my hours to work around this.

This is my first pregnancy. We've been trying for a while for this, so I'm grateful for it of course but, my, it's hard and I'm only 6 weeks gone! As well as this though, because of how long we've been trying I want to be as careful as possible. We already had a scare with some previous bleeding early on so I'm already a bit on edge.

Sorry you feel rubbish, first trimester can be tough!

Speak to your gp. They can provide you with a sick note and also prescribe medication which should help with the nausea. Take time off if you need it, any absence related to pregnancy should not be included in your sickness record.

Agree wholeheartedly with PP, speak to your GP about a fit note but also medication as it's definitely helped me

Definitely get a fit note and some medication.
I hope it doesn't go on for too long.

Definitely go off sick, I used to find weeks 7-9 were the worst, and it's not normal sickness in that there can be little warning to actually vomiting........can't imagine many men would work feeling like it!! Hope you feel better soon, its worse than actual labour😩
