Holiday booked but pregnany

Just found out we are expecting end of august/early september but we have a holiday booked to go to turkey for 13th September '25. We are already nearly done with paying it off, what do we do? Is it safe to go with baby only being a few weeks old? Also to add, i had to have c-section with my first, i am hoping for a natural birth but likely I'll have to have another section.

Postpone due to the uncertainty. I'd be very surprised if any one says go for it!

Who are you booked with? Some providers like TUI will be flexible in special circumstances. Worth calling and asking them.

Baby won’t have their first set of vaccinations. It’s not a good idea.

Attheyard · 30/12/2024 06:21

We plan to go abroad long haul but baby will be more like 6-7 weeks old. 2 weeks is very young. That said, we have a wedding we plan to go to when baby is about 3 weeks as well. Our attitude is plan for yes but have contingencies.

Helpfullright · 30/12/2024 06:27

This is covered on your travel insurance, I got a full refund.

it isn’t covered on standard t&c’s with a holiday company so you will need to pay any change fees if you have no insurance.

OliveLeader · 30/12/2024 06:32

I don’t think you can go OP. You might not even have had the baby by that point if you go overdue, and if you have given birth the baby will be too small to travel (no vaccinations, real risk of viruses etc). And if you’ve had a c-section you’re unlikely to be mobile enough for flying.

Overthebow · 30/12/2024 06:32

No I wouldn’t go when baby’s 2-3 weeks olds they won’t have had their jabs and it’s not unusual at that age to not be signed off by the midwives yet and still needing visits. Your travel insurance should cover you changing the dates.

Ohthatsabitshit · 30/12/2024 06:40

You can’t fly when heavily pregnant or just post partum so you will have to change the dates on the holiday.

LuckysDadsHat · 30/12/2024 06:45

You won't of had time to get the baby a passport with that timing. You would need to register immediately and then send off the form straight away and cross your fingers. Personally I would delay.

If you go 2 weeks overdue then you have no chance. Best to sort it now rather than panic at the time.

remaininghopeful23 · 30/12/2024 08:23

Likely wouldn't get a passport that quickly would you? Airline and/or insurance often don't allow travel so soon postpartum. Cant see you feeling up to it either just finding your feet, feeding, practicalities of safe sleep, clean water, sterilising etc it all just sounds too awkward with a brand new baby. Also real risk of illness to a baby so young. It's a hard no from me I'm afraid. See if your travel company will allow you to change and if not maybe your insurance will cover cancellation.

We had booked to fly to Bali and then the day of our flight ended up being our due date (unplanned baby). Luckily we had shot hot travel insurance which fully paid for everything (all flights and hotels had been non refundable).
hopefully you have insurance!

sel2223 · 30/12/2024 08:40

Do you have insurance? You should be able to cancel or postpone the holiday.

I wouldn't travel until baby had it's first injections at 8 weeks.

mummyh2016 · 30/12/2024 08:48

Postpone, even if you get a passport in time it won't be enjoyable. Or bring it forward to say May but then if you don't have a great pregnancy you still might not enjoy it.

Roselilly36 · 30/12/2024 08:54

Should be covered under travel insurance under cancellation, usually covers pregnancy, redundancy or bereavement/illness.

if you don’t have travel insurance, pay to move the date of the holiday, personally I would consider going before the baby comes or when baby is a little older.

many congratulations btw.

Otto223 · 30/12/2024 09:07

No you can’t go.
bring the holiday forward, to June?
I was in turkey this year in June pregnant. Had such a lovely holiday before baby comes!
congratulations!

mitogoshigg · 30/12/2024 09:09

If through a tour operator, phone them and find out your options. They may be willing to move dates. If independent it will be up to the providers but worth asking
