Hi
i am due for my first appointment with my midwife & i am just wondering if there is a lot of waiting about. By that I mean do you get a scan then back to waiting room then back in to the midwife? I am wanting to bring my partner but would prefer doing the medical history etc by myself so trying to figure out the situation.
thanks I’m advance!

Are you in the UK? If this is your booking in appointment then it's literally just seeing the midwife, noting your pregnancy and medical history, relationship etc on the system and then off you go, you won't see them again until 16 weeks. It takes about 2 hours. Your 12 week scan is separate and usually nothing to do with your midwife.

As above, there is no scan at your booking in appointment.

It's about an hour chatting to the midwife, going through a medical questionnaire, giving blood, giving a urine sample.
I didn't take my husband to this one, it's better to go alone

Yeah this.

If you do take your husband to booking appt they’ll likely ask him to leave the room for parts of the chat as they do ask about domestic violence etc and like to speak to you alone.

There will be a few questions about your partner's medical/family history so it can be useful to take him to this one. But they can probably get that info another time if you don't want to. Or you could look up what they ask and find out from him in advance so you can answer those.

You get your first scan at 12 weeks. You also get blood taken around 12 weeks, I had mine done before the scan.

I had my booking appointment at 10 weeks and it was just going through my medical history and they tell you how to eat healthy and look after yourself during the pregnancy. I didn't take my DP as he would have been bored and there was no need for him to be there. If you take your DP they'll ask him to leave the room for five minutes so they can check that you are happy with your relationship, not being abused or hit etc.

They will have told you if you are getting a scan at your first appointment. If you are then yes, you will go in to see the midwife, then return to the waiting room, then get called in for your scan which will be in a different room with different people.

Both of my first appointments with the midwife were quite brief, going through information and taking bloods. Plus one of those tests where you blow as hard as you can into a cardboard tube? This tells you what to expect.
