I’m 28 weeks at the moment which I assume is too early.

sel2223 · 28/12/2024 18:48

MamaWeasel · 28/12/2024 18:51

Umm.....?

I know they are good for constipation, and bowel health in general. I’ve never heard them advised for anything special in pregnancy though.

Postbox10 · 28/12/2024 18:53

It’s said that dates help to soften the cervix to help in labour, although there is no actual evidence to support this. Apparently recommended from 35+ weeks

HoppityBun · 28/12/2024 18:53

Should you be dative at all, in your condition. Assuming you’re a preying mantis, it’s a convenient way to dispose of them, I suppose

Thanks, this is exactly what I meant. There’s a podcast here which goes through the evidence, and dates do appear to be beneficial in late pregnancy as long as there are no blood sugar concerns. Just wondered if anyone had any experience themselves.

I ate dates from 38 weeks with both pregnancies and had very short labours. It could be coincidence but doesn't hurt to try!

JennyPenny222 · 28/12/2024 19:31

Last few weeks. Yum!

JennyPenny222 · 28/12/2024 19:31

I ate them as some thought it can reduce heavy bleeding.

Anecdata doesn't tell you anything.

Some weird comments at the start of this thread😂 It's well researched!

6 dates (75g) per day from 36 weeks.

Do this and you'll be 21% more likely to go into spontaneous labour
28% less likely to need medicated induction
74% further dilated on admission than those who did not consume dates.
Lower rates of c section and instrumental births in those who eat dates too. Win win!

I had 6 a day from 36 weeks based on the data from a number of (small) studies. Obviously anecdotal but I went into labour spontaneously at 38+3, laboured at home, dilated well, and likely would have had my baby in 12 hours from start to finish. However, my pelvic floor was too tight to let her through so needed forceps in the end (make sure you practice relaxing and lengthening your pelvic floor, not just strengthening!). I will do the dates this pregnancy too, even though I was really forcing them down in the end - not my fave!

I are 6 dates a day for about 5 weeks at the end of my pregnancy and had an induction at 41 weeks, with failed forceps and an emergency c section 😭 Was such a chore eating that many dates too 😂

Haha similar story here😂 We were the unlucky ones unfortunately! I remember trying to make all sorts of concoctions with them.. smoothies, with chocolate and peanut butter, whatever it took to get them down. At least we tried eh?😅

Chypre · 29/12/2024 17:57

Single date contains nearly 5g of sugar so 6 is pushing 30g. Thats 7 sugar cubes.
