Sickness and fatigue worse at 11 weeks

I am currently 11 weeks, will be 12 weeks this coming Tuesday... my sickness, nausea and fatigue is a lot worse than it has been.

I have vomited every morning for the past 2 weeks, occasionally happens in the afternoon as well, if not the nausea is horrendous and just feels like I am going to be sick, almost feels like I'm holding it back.

The fatigue and feeling drained is so bad at the moment, I am having to nap when my 2 year old naps, I can't do much at all, my husband is doing all housework, I can't even get myself out of bed to help or entertain my son :(

Can I just ask others if this is normal to feel this bad? Is this what you would say is a normal and healthy first trimester? X

Mine was bad early on then seemed to get better at 10 weeks but came back with a vengeance at 11 weeks!
It then stayed pretty bad until 20ish weeks.
I'm 27 weeks now and it's much better - I'm still sick occasionally but more energy and nausea has been replaced by horrendous heartburn.

@sel2223 20 weeks, wow! Have you had checks done and been told everything is all ok? I would be so worried if it continued for that long :( Do you know if the daily vomiting is normal or is this something to go and get checked? It's literally everyday 1-2 times a day or is this completely normal?

It is normal for many women unfortunately, but you don't need to suffer, you can get anti sickness medication prescribed if you are finding it really bad. Some women have sickness and nausea throughout the entire pregnancy.
The fatigue I found debilitating this pregnancy and nothing helped that at all.

I was fine til week ten and then 10-15(now) my sickness got terrible.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/12/2024 16:13

It sounds like you may have hyperemisis Gravidarum (excessive sickness in pregnancy). It's grim, I had it weeks 6/7-18 ish in both my pregnancies. The important thing is to try and stay hydrated - sips of water, melt an ice cube in your mouth. Your GP can prescribe a sickness dugs - there are several types, which if found has types levels of effectiveness on me.

Do you work?

Under the Maternity Act, pregnancy related sick leave must be recorded separately to the rest, and can not be used in any disciplinary action against you. So basically, if you need time off because of pregnancy sickness, they can't sack you, but you get paid sick pay

Pregnancy Sickness Suport can provide moral, legal, medical and practical support.

I hope you feel better soon. Try and stay hydrated - if you can't (ie if yiu have dark coloured wee), maybe go to A&E. They can admit you and rehydrate you on a drip.

Both my dc are fine btw

I’m not sure if you’ve done your own research on this OP but it’s completely normal at this point. It doesn’t sound too extreme like HG sickness but women can be sick their entire pregnancy. As for exhaustion that’s normal you’re growing a baby

Motherof1and2dogs · 28/12/2024 17:07

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads I have been prescribed cyclizine but I am petrified to take it due to the side effects :( so I am just suffering and waiting for it to pass but it's a long and tiring thing to wait out :(

I am aware that you can take time off being sick due to pregnancy but prior to being pregnant I was signed off for 6 weeks for something else and I just feel so guilty taking more time off :( I work for the government so luckily I am pretty well protected in terms of taking time off etc, it's just me feeling guilty!

If it is HG - is this just something that I need to go A&E for to get diagnosed. Luckily I have my next appointment to check my bloods and urine on the 3rd January, would they be able to tell me then if I have HG? Sorry for all the questions.

About 8 out of every 10 pregnant women experience sickness and nausea unfortunately.

HG is a really extreme version of this and only affects 1-3 out of every 100. It's normally recognised by vomiting a minimum of 3 times a day and often causes other issues including weight loss. It doesn't sound like you have that fortunately.

Adamsapple89 · 28/12/2024 17:43

There are no markers for HG that tests can show, it’s based on extreme all day sickness and nausea to the point you can’t even keep a sip of water down. As PP it doesn’t sound to that extreme but women are sick throughout and have perfectly healthy babies. First trimester sickness and exhaustion is very normal, you don’t have anything to be concerned about

Harriet1989 · 28/12/2024 19:36

Would definitely recommend speaking to your GP or the charity mentioned by the earlier PP about medication again, if you don't get on with the one you're prescribed you can try others

Hi, just wanted to say I am in a similar boat, 11 weeks with my second, only being sick once a day in the evening but dry wretching about 10 times a day! Nausea is horrific. feel like I can't function, feel down and struggling to look after my 2yo. thankfully husband very helpful. have had to cut my hourd down and finish at 3 - feel bad but it's either that or not be there at all. also don't have HG, got antisickness tablets from the GP at 6 weeks but he was reluctant to give them and started talking about thalidomide (I no this is ridiculous) but it put me off taking them. tried a couple but they didn't help anyway. I know this post isn't helpful really but just wanted to say your not alone. keep going girl, we got this, wont last forever and when we see and hold our babies for the first time it's all gunna be worth it.

Motherof1and2dogs · 28/12/2024 20:24

@Libra152 thank you for this. My GP was also very hesitant to give me the cyclizine but I was desperate for it, but stupid me decided to go off on a tangent googling symptoms etc and put me right off! It's nice to know you're not alone though because my god you feel alone!! I described it to my partner that I literally feel like I am on my death bed every single day and not even over exaggerating 😞 I just hope it ends soon, we are so close to the end of the first trimester but read sooooo many women get it up until 20 weeks, sometimes longer. Hope that isn't the case for us! We've got this, even though every day is a struggle 🥲 we will get there

In my last pregnancy my sickness started 3-4 mornings a week, then progressed to once daily, then the final 4-5 days at 13 weeks it got worse to 3-4x a day. It went away at 14 weeks. I didn’t have nausea but I did have very bad fatigue (low iron).

This time my sickness ended by 9 weeks, however I had all day nausea from 4-9 weeks alongside 4-5 times a week being sick. The final two days I was sick 8-9x each day. So much so I just spent the weekend in bed and running to the bathroom. I didn’t think I could cope for x number of weeks like that but luckily it did just disappear oddly at 9 weeks this time. I’m now 23 weeks. Oh I got the fatigue again but it didn’t start until 11 weeks this time so I asked for a blood test at my gp at 18 weeks once I was very bad- almost passing out a few times, alongside not functioning at work by 2-3pm. I had low iron again.

Good luck and I hope it goes soon for you.
