Hi, i have tried calling my mw this morning but 3 hours later and i'm still waiting. Can anyone on here put my mind at ease... I'm 27 +3 weeks and i've just found I have brown mucus in my knickers (sorry for TMI)
Baby has been quiet this morning but he does have quiet periods so I'm not overly concerned about the lack of movements just yet. My tummy feels tight and I don't have any pains.
What should I do? any advice/help/info gratefully received. I've tried doing a search on the net but its a bit tricky as i'm at work today

I could never get in touch with MW when I had any concerns.

If youre booked to give birth in hospital, call the maternity ward. They were fab with me when ever I needed reassurance.

Good luck

looneytune · 02/05/2008 13:33

My midwife always gets me to call delivery suite for concerns and I'm not even booked for hospital birth so either way, do give the hospital a call.

looneytune · 02/05/2008 13:33

Sorry, hit post too early......hope all is ok and let us know what they say.

I'd get it checked too, you wouldn't want to spend the weekend worrying when you could easily be reassured.

TeaDr1nker · 02/05/2008 13:36

Call your labour ward, especially if you are still not having any luck - alternatively just rock up there with your notes, assuming y9ou have some.

alittlebitshy · 02/05/2008 16:59

miamla you're having a rough time of it aren't you?

Yes, i'd say call the hosp if the mw not got back to you.

thinking of you

hope you are okay

Miamla,
Brown is always better than red. 27+3 means you're in your 28th week which means the baby will have an excellent outcome if born early. Just checking your profile photos the baby looks incredibly healthy. For what it's worth that brown stuff could have been hanging around in there for months but now you've grown enough to push it out. Tight tummy is probably just Braxton Hicks...so totally normal and much more pronounced when you are stressed or tired....PLUS as we've all noticed on our thread the baby seems to be calmest during Braxton Hicks moments. I do hope you are being seen at this very moment to confirm all is healthy and well for you and the little one. >>>>GOOD VIBES

It sounds like a bit of show - and if we're talking at less-than-golf-ball sized amount, I think it is OK. As in "get it checked out - but don't worry" OK

SlightlyMadSweet · 02/05/2008 20:28

Hope all is well.

My short story

I had this at 25+5ish...and gave birth within 10 days. It was indeed my show.

Please get checked. You need to go via labour ward and see a Dr so they can check your cervix.

My longer story
Tiny amount of brown mucous at 24+5 - scared shitless...to maternity suite, cervix closed. Kept in overnight (well 2 days cos I couldn't be discharged until my Dr bothered to do a ward round). MWs say it is not uncommon.
Between 24+5 and 26+5 more brown ucous. Kept in touch with labour ward by phone. Told me I was OK at home unless it turned red or pink (i.e. fresh blood).
26+5 I got that awful pink tinge. Straight back to labour ward in a panic. Cervix still tightly closed admitted for another 24hrs obs.
26+6 started getting pains. Not very painful. At 9pm MWs say I am not in labour (from a trace). At 9.30 I am 9-10cm dilated. By 10.20 I had 2 tiny girls.
Seven years on They are fit as a fiddle. They will be 7 tomorrow.

not everyone will be heading to labour wih brown mucous but I wanted you to be aware it can happen. I ignored the signs...and ended up giving birth. PLease keep an eye on yourself even if you get the all clear today.

thanks all for your kind messages and sorry for delay in my reply
i gave my doctor a call about something else and as an afterthought asked if the nurse or GP were available for a quick chat. An hour later I had an emergency referral to my local hospital. Went straight up there and ended up getting admitted last night. Finally home now and good news is that baby hasn't made an appearance. But judging by SlightlyMadSweet's message it sounds like it might be sooner than we're expecting!
They've given me the steroid injection as a precaution (to boost the growth of his lungs from what i understand) and told me to take it easy. Baby quite typically was very quiet until the bus ride on the way to the hospital! And he didn't like the constant heart monitoring...it really seemed to rile him and he kept kicking it, messing up their trace! I had an internal exam and he couldn't work out where the bleed had come from. He reckoned it might have had something to do with the aspirin I'm taking (for restricted blood flow in umbilical cord) affecting an old bleed we had at 8weeks.
Doctor did say there's obviously still a high chance of an early delivery but at the same time he's had ladies in my position who go on to need to be induced!
I guess its a case of watching this space!

Looking on the bright side (other than of course that baby is absolutely fine and i'm home now) i've had my first experience of being on a labour ward. Because of that I have now added ear plugs and a torch to my hospital list. Erm yes, this will be the list i started writing whilst being in the hospital last night! Why a torch do i hear you ask? because the NHS couldn't quite cope with providing me with a working light so i couldn't sleep because of all the screams round me but i couldn't read or knit either because it was too dark!

i'm very pleased to be home and there are quite a few relieved parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and greatparents to hear that D-day hasn't arrived just yet!

ooh and we're taking bets that baby will arrive on a bank holiday weekend. Purely due to the fact that everytime i've had problems with him up until now, he's chosen bank holidays. we're really really hoping he doesn't choose the next one in May because that's when its looking like we'll be moving house!
As i said..place your bets whether or not baby continues to cause trouble by arriving on moving day! But you know what, if he does, we'll deal with it admirably i'm sure!
so, after my epic, thanks again all for your advice
much appreciated...again!

that's actually what we're hoping for in preference to moving day!! chances of this little monkey arriving on due date is so remote!

Great news

MIamla...just take my message as a warning that it may happen, not that it will.

miamla · 04/05/2008 09:09

SLM,that' exactly how I did take your message. I really appreciate you sharing your story
