My 2nd missed miscarriage

Hi all,

I previously had a missed miscarriage discovered at about 6 weeks 5 days; it was a blighted ovum so no embryo really formed. I was spotting hence why I went for an early scan, had to wait for a week and be rescanned at which point it was confirmed to be a miscarriage and that's when I started bleeding. It lasted a couple weeks and all came away naturally although I did need to go to EPU on the last day for gas & air and pain relief to pass the last bit (which was just a very large clot).

This time I went for a private scan at 10 weeks 5 days on 20th December as I wanted reassurance before Christmas. Unfortunately no heartbeat was found and the baby was measuring 7 weeks 4 days. Another missed miscarriage. It was a big shock for us as I had been off work with hyperemesis so the symptoms were strong! No pain or spotting or bleeding this time. I've to go back on 6th January where I can get rescanned and potentially start the medical management help to pass everything. I'm quite scared of this though as I had severe pain the last time, and I really am terrified of the thought of a D&C if the medical management route didn't work.

Is there anything I can do to bring on the bleeding? Such as intense exercise, raspberry leaf tea etc? Just anything even if it's an old wives tale. I am desperate

So sorry to hear that you are going through this again.

I am also on MMC no2. First one the bleeding started naturally but escalated to a point where I had to go into a&e because it was very excessive. The process was traumatic and difficult to manage as you didn't know when it would happen and how long for etc.

I found out about the second MMC on an early pregnancy scan and opted for surgical management as my previous experience was really bad. I had also heard of numerous people who had medical management for it not to work and then need surgical. In fact, the lady beside me on the ward was one of those people and bless her she was so distressed.

My surgical management was straightforward and honestly night and day difference from my first experience. I had minimal bleeding after and I felt in control of a situation for once. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Next to no pain either maybe something a little similar to period pain the afternoon after.

I am so sorry to hear about your losses. That's good to know about the D&C, I've heard mixed experiences on it which is true for anything in life. Perhaps because of my natural fear of it, the bad experiences stick in my mind more. Were you awake for the procedure or under a general anaesthetic? I would certainly need to be put to sleep I don't think I could tolerate something like that while awake.
I've never had a GA before, the only surgical thing I have had was a few months ago I got my 2 bottom wisdom teeth out which I had IV sedation for but it didn't work properly and I woke up in the middle of it. Dentist was really quite nasty to me during the procedure. I think it's made me lose faith in medical folks to be honest. Oh and by the way I actually paid privately to a so called dental phobia clinic to get those teeth out! The irony does actually give me a laugh!

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through your second MMC. I had one in February this year discovered at the 12 week scan and like you no bleeding or pain etc and strong symptoms and off work due to nausea so it was such a shock. I immediately decided on surgical management as I was too broken to feel like I was in labour (it was my second pregnancy). The surgical management was so straightforward and everyone was absolutely lovely, I would highly recommend it. I had very minimal bleeding afterwards. I feel pregnant after a further 3 cycles of trying which was 4 cycles in total. I'm now 29 weeks so please don't give up hope.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I've had 3 MMCs, and had surgical management under general anaesthetic for all 3. Super straightforward, only minimal bleeding afterwards and a tiny bit of cramping for a couple of hours. I'd highly recommend it, and if I am ever in the situation where I needed to, I would choose surgical management again.

@yummymummy2024 ok so what happened was the night before I fasted from midnight. I had to take 2 tablets to soften the womb I think and arrived at 7.30am. The anaesthetist came to ask questions on my general heath etc and I got prepped for theatre which yes was a full GA. They put a line into my hand which is not nice but also totally fine really. They then put some meds in to make me feel woozy and next thing I knew I woke up and asked the nurse if it was over? It was all very swift. Back to a recovery ward for a few hours or monitoring and tea and toast. Woozy for a few hours but all in all ok.
I know you have had a bad experience but I would hopefully like to think that wouldn't happen again. I have a DC and prior to her birth I was very wary on all things GA/operation etc and to be honest after that I'm kind of "just go for it guys" kind of person as I do trust them.
