Itchiness - why?

Hi!
Last few weeks of pregnancy and itchy all over. Its keeping me awake.
I've been to the assessment ward, had monitoring, bloods and urine tested, and there's no abnormalities, so its not choleostasis/liver/anything.

Why is this?
Is there anything I can do to treat it? I'm finding it very stressful, and it is affecting my looking after my toddler.
I was hoping to make the most of the last few weeks of pregnancy, but am too exhausted to do much at all!

Go and get it checked

She said she has already or did you only read half of the post?

SuperGinger · 26/12/2024 01:29

Not to alarm you but it could be pre eclampsia
Always err on the side of caution. Good luck

Go again, my faith in the NHS is low at the moment

I went a few weeks ago and two days ago. All the bloods taken, everything. Ultrasound and measurements, urine sample and heartbeat all normal.

Agree to getting it checked out but meanwhile, I find a small bottle of cold water out of the fridge really good for dealing with itchy areas. Move it on to the next area every few minutes to stop it getting uncomfortable.

I know you said you had it checked but go with your instincts.

I will, but I do keep having checks and tests all come back negative. So I guess its just hormones? There must be something I can do! I'm still awake now because of it! 😫

Thinking outside the box as you've already been checked... are there any particular bits itchier than others? E.g the webbed bit in between your fingers as that could suggest it's scabies?

SuperGinger · 26/12/2024 02:09

A bath might help, but warm not hot

Chasingaces · 26/12/2024 04:18

I had it in the late stages of all my pregnancies and after the first one when I had investigations and nothing could be found, the midwife for my second said she had had it and it could be because I was expecting a boy, and a reaction to their hormones? And I had three boys... but def ask for a liver function blood test if you haven't already

See, I had a boy the first time round and experienced none of this!
Baby number two is 100% a boy also, they showed me his testes on a scan a few days ago - pretty sure baby turning out to be a girl is totally impossible by this stage..?

I third PUPPS. My sister had it and was only diagnosed after giving birth when the rash came on full force. Definitely get seen.

Missmarymack2 · 26/12/2024 06:40

I had this in my last pregnancy for a few weeks during the third trimester and they told me it was hormones. I tried everything including oat baths and different creams, nothing worked . It did go away itself eventually.

Sunseeker83 · 26/12/2024 06:47

I had it in my first pregnancy. Got tested regularly for choleostasis. It wasn't. Nor was it pupps. No marks or spots. Just intense itch. Nearly drove me crazy. Particularly my legs. The hospital gave me antihistamines in the end. It was a boy. Second pregnancy was also a boy. Didn't have it at all the second time.

It was similar to the itch you get after a spinal when you have a c section

RabbitsEatPancakes · 26/12/2024 07:26

I am always madly itching towards the end of pregnancy, it was horrific last time with DD. Not quite as awful this time.

They just said it was a response to the raised hormones in my body and one of those awkward pregnancy things. They recommended antihistamines however this time my dermatologist has said new evidence suggests even the safe for pregnancy ones have some sort of relation to alzeimers/ dementia for the baby so I'm avoiding and just powering through. He prescribed a cooling menthol cream that does feel nice.
