First trimester viruses

I’m 9 weeks pregnant on Chirstmas Day. We travelled some distance to visit family for the week. My nieces aged 4 and 5 are also here and have a virus which gave them a temperature last night. I helped to care for them and give medicine without a second thought. Now my mum has developed a high temperature. My husband reminded me that I’m pregnant and should be careful around sick people but it’s probably too late for that as we’re all in the one house. Now I’m terrified I will have picked up a virus which will damage our baby or cause a miscarriage. We suffered a miscarried in October and I am scared it will happen again. Presumably other pregnant mums are around their own sick children?

Exactly as you said, mum's with other kids are exposed to every virus under the sun so please try not to worry too much. You do need to be mindful about fevers in the first trimester. Uncontrolled/untreated fevers are not great so would just suggest checking temp and regular paracetamol to keep it at bay if it does happen. Hopefully you'll avoid but better to be prepared.

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I’m trying not to go 0-100 in an instant. xx

Aw I know, easier said than done. Always helps to just ask. Hope you stay well. Merry Christmas x

I wouldn't worry too much. Like the previous post said just keep your temp low with Paracetamol. Anything else just means your body is creating antibodies that will be passed on to your baby so it helps in a weird way! Just think about why pregnant women are given vaccinces, to create antibodies that pass via the placenta so baby is equipped with them and won't be so vulnerable when he or she is born xx
