Is this level of morning sickness normal?

Hi everyone,

so i have two other children and experienced morning sickness with both of them, started around 6 weeks and would feel nauseous and occasionally vomit, kind of let off completely after around 20 weeks or so with both.

im now pregnant again (10+4) and im miserable, the nausea is so intense I cannot eat, I’ve never felt like this before with previous pregnancies. I’m throwing up all of the time, tonight was twice in the space of an hour and I hadn’t even eaten anything. I ordered myself a Nando’s earlier and just could not eat it - I’m lightheaded and struggling to keep on top of housework as I just want to lie down all of the time. Keep googling this but nothing comes up it just says morning sickness but surely this is not normal?! I have children to look after and housework to do I can’t keep going on like this it’s making me miserable.

Please help, has anyone experienced similar? Did you speak to your doctor if so? I don’t want to speak to them for them to just brush it off as nothing.

**Had early scan at 8+2, told all healthy and only 1 baby as friends have suggested it may be twins.

Absolutely speak to your doctor. I wouldn't have been able to function in either of my pregnancies without medication.

Definitely speak to your GP, there are a number of different medications you can try.

Speak to your gp. They can give you anti sickness tablets and also can refer you for a IV if you're dehydrated

If you're not on anti sickness medication already, contact GP asap. If you are, it's not working, contact GP and ask for an alternative. There are several options available. Don't accept advice to eat little and often etc, insist on medication. Unfortunately some GPs are still very reluctant to prescribe, believing that women are just making a fuss. (I am a GP).
You might be experiencing hyperemesis gravidarum which is a very severe type of pregnancy related nausea and vomiting. GP will likely want to test your urine for dehydration so take a sample with you. Some women are admitted to hospital for IV fluids.

I was so sick with my second I couldn’t even keep down water at one point, no housework was done and mil took my eldest every now and then so I could sleep, I was utterly miserable until about 20 weeks. I took a travel sickness medicine, prescribed by the GP, which didn’t do much to be honest.

With my first I felt nauseous from start to finish, I had really bad acid reflux and was constantly taking rennies. Brushing my teeth made my feel sick. When I gave birth it was amazing because I felt well for the first time in the longest time. I was more delighted to be able to eat without being sick than I was with the baby.

I always had bad morning sickness that peaked from about 8-12 weeks.
I think you're right at the worst point.

My 2nd was worse.
Maybe because I was chasing a toddler and slept less. Maybe because she was a girl.

Not normal, not uncommon. Sounds like hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) territory. There are safe and effective meds out there GP or hospital can prescribe so you don't have to keep suffering on! You can attend triage for assessment and IV fluids/meds if you feel you need it. HG can have people vomiting 20+ times a day in some cases so you need to keep on top of it. So sorry you're experiencing this, its truly debilitating. Hope you get sorted ASAP.
