Large lady Pregnant - pupuce / mears anyone advice please

I'm a large lady roughly 22stone - and have just found out i am pregnant it wasn't a planned pregnancey as i am currently trying to loose weight through SLIMMING WORLD.

Do you think i will have any trouble because of my weight with this pregnancey???

peainapod - please do not worry about something you cannot control now for this pregnancy. As you will read in all aspects of health it is better not to be overweight. Pregnancy is one of those times in life as well. However, many 'large' women have trouble free pregnancies and births. How did your last pregnancy go? Has your weight changed dramatically that you are worried about it? PLease do not worry yourself over it and enjoy your pregnancy. Deal with problems if or when they arrive as all women do no matter what their weight.

Congratulations Peainapod! First of all, everthing will very probably be fine.
You should try to keep fit and active and eat healthily but don't go on a strict diet and don't take up a demanding exercise regime - just increase your daily activity (eg walking further than usual) or go swimming (doesn't put any stress on your joints). Basically you are at higher risk of some complications, but obviously risk doesn't mean you are guaranteed to develop problems.
ALL pregnant women should drink plenty of fluids, eat a variet diet including fruit, veg and dairy (or calcium-rich alternatives) and meat/fish or veggie alternatives. And take folic acid supplements for at least the first three months (or eat folate-rich food such as leafy green veg). And take moderate exercise.

Being very large can make ultrasound more difficult so may mean due dates not as exact as usual (but then, only 5 per cent of babies arrive on due date anyway).
It's also associated with gestational diabetes - this is the sort that goes away after pregnancy but can make babies grow bigger. And with pre-eclampsia, which, if it develops, needs medical attention asap. But attending all your antenatal appointments should ensure that if you do develop any of these conditions, it will be picked up and managed or treated.

You have already had good advice from Mears and Edam but I just wanted to reassure you. I'm a larg lady too and have had 2 normal pregnancies with no complications. Actually, I lost weight whilst pregnant (not putting any on whilst pregnant so when the kids were born, I was nearly 2 stone lighter) but I'm fairly sure that doesn't happen most of the time. I actually found I wanted to eat more healthily - as if my body wouldn't let me eat the higher fat stuff I'd loved before. Sadly it didn't stay that way and my weight soon went up again after the birth but that was more to do with my own eating issues than anything els .

Glad Edam and Cadbury posted too. You should contiue going to slimming world to ensure that you are following a healthy diet and you may actually find that, like Cadbury, you lose weight. Drastic dieting s not recommended but healthy eating is. Good luck.

Another large mum here who had a totally uncomplicated 2nd pregnancy recently. I did end up one stone heavier but then I did eat every sweet thing within the M25. My only real problem was the horrible midwife who couldn't seem to believe how well I was all the way through. If I could have changed anything it would have been HER.

was not huge but definitely overweight both times I was pregnant - no complications with my health in the least - no gestational diabetes - although I was tested both times. Blood pressure etc was excellent the whole way through. The advice others have given is great. I was following weight watchers plan when I feel pregnant the second time - they would not all ow you to continue after a certain point in the pregnancy but you were able to return 6 weeks after the birth. I just kept following the healthy eating ( roughly) plan and at this stage 8 weeks after birth - only put on three kilos from when I was last weighed at ww.

i am trying to remember - think I was about 17 stone or more when I had no1 and about 15 stone or so with no2 from memory.

peainapod, forgot to say (doh!) that I'm on the large side too - size 18 at the start of my last pregnancy. No-one ever mentioned it to me as a possible problem.
Bet you'll be fine anyway, as everyone has said. But do take the folic acid, even if you don't do anything else!

i am a large lady and was around 20 stone and asthmatic when i got pg with DS who is now 15mths (today) and I can honestly say it never caused me any problems at all while being pregnant..like u i had actually just signe up to weightwatchers then found out i was pg...i am now around 21 stone and was recently pg again..unfortunately lost pip but i wasnt so concerned about my weight as it wasnt an issue last time...wishing u a happy n healthy pg

Have 4 gorgeous children and never had any weight related pregnancy issues. I also lost weight each time and felt absolutely fantastic throughout. In fact it was a chance to wear things I normally wouldn't because my stomach was supposed to stick out... Though I must admit to being embarrassed when the scan wasn't clear. You could always ask for an internal though - I suffered the humiliation for my nuchal fold scan.

agree about the scans.they r not 100% clear but i was offered a second 20 week scan at 23 weeks which worked well cos got to see DS twice

aww induction worked well for me...lol all over and done in hour and half....roll on induction for next bubs...pmsl
