You have my sympathies - I had sciatica on and off through all my pregnancies. One thing I found helped was doing a couple fo exercised from my antenatal yoga class before i got up in the morning. One was a pelvic tilt, just lie on you back with your knees bent and then gently raise your hips off the bed 10 times or so, and the other was the Cat stretch (if you google it, I'm sure you can find some pics). Hope it feels better soon though.

I saw a physio when pg (you can self refer) and she did wonders for my sciatica.

I had this in hte last month of my first pregnancy - it disappeared the day after dd was born!

It's really painful, I totally sympathise.

That is nasty.
You are a true superstar having to deal with all this. Hope your hubby is helping out.

Yes, find a good physio...I got one who also gave me a sacriliac belt which helped support the bump and took pressure off the nerve.
If sciatica continues after the birth, stretch your hamstrings out every day and your calves and front hip flexors, if it is still bad take lessons in Alexander technique.
I used to have sciatica in both legs and since Alexander lessons it has never recurred...yippee!!!

ooh yes i know an excellent physio (who treated my dp's slipped disc last year and she was fab!)

ill give her a call at the end of the week of this pain in the butt not gone.

does lying in bed triggered off sciatica as since ive been pg i cant keep my eyes open past 8pm so i go to bed!

thanks everyone for your advices and yes dp is helping out as i feel "ruff, ruff!"

Oh biglips, you poor thing - I've got this second time around too (also much earlier) and it is a pain in the arse (ha!). I second Wilbur that yoga does help. Too difficult to describe the two poses my ante-natal yoga teacher has suggested for sciatica but they do exist... And be careful about breast stroke when you do go swimming - made mine a whole lot worse. At least you know it will disappear when baba arrives.

ooh thank you pinchy

its hard esp when im trying not to cough as its kills my butt so everytime i cough i shouts out "OOOOWWWWW!"

mckenzie excercises - swear by them to help my sciatic pain following slipped disc last year. I am currently signed off with back pain - bit of sciatica and bit of hips, bump and overdoing it.

When you are in bed, if you sleep on your back (I automatically go onto my front, which is now not possible, so I end up on my back cos my hips hurt), roll a t-shirt up so it is quite think, maybe quarter to half an inch thick and place it under your back low down, just up from your tail bone inline with your hips, lifts the base of your back up and releases the pressure on your nerves which cause this pain.

Awful pain and I know exactly what you are going through. Hard enough to cope with when not pg nevermind with a bump.

sciatic pain was my first sign of pregnancy...(from month 3) and is still very much here. my physio is helping but i can never remember her advice.
