Baby aspirin for recurrent losses

I’ve had a faint positive today at 9dpo. I’ve already started my progesterone but what’s the consensus on baby aspirin for those without clotting disorders? Initially when I had my first 3 losses a few years ago my consultant said take from positive test, but then when I saw him again in the summer he seemed to have changed his mind and said it only should be taken if there are blood clotting issues! I see so much mixed advice on this. I can self refer to my local EPU for scans due to having recurrent losses previously so I could ring them to ask? I’m tempted to take it if it can’t do any harm, but I’ve seen some things online saying it can affect implantation negatively.

Hi OP
I had five miscarriages, two with severe bleeding, one so bad I had only five units of blood left. My husband read somewhere about Asprin. I did take a daily Asprin and managed to go full term with my next pregnancy. Wishing you all the best xx

I had 2 losses. After the second, a midwife unofficially told me that I could give baby aspirin a go. It's low dose so doesn't have a major effect but due to so little research they can't recommend it on paper.

I took it from the moment I got my positive test to the day before my emcs. All ok x

With the caveat that it was upwards of 22 years ago, my obstetrician put me on 75mg aspirin immediately on a positive test, as well as progesterone. I'd had two previous miscarriages but no idea what had caused them. I was on aspirin for 30-odd weeks, can't remember how many, but that pregnancy was successful. I will never know if aspirin made the difference but I got my baby!

Ring and ask to be on the safe side.

Best of luck xx

It didn’t work for me, but I don’t think it is a bad thing.

Baby asprin is prescribed to loads of women now including from around 12weeks and my midwife was of the view that before long, it's going to be as standard as folic acid. I think mine was 150mg? Not just to prevent losses but also because it can reduce the risk of high BP and preeclampsia later in pregnancy (first pregnancy, I took it and got to 38w before developing high BP, second pregnancy i was told not to take it and had high BP at 36w and preeclampsia by 39w 😒) Given how early it is, i think if you speak to EPU and they are supportive, it sounds like it might be worth a try. Hope this one sticks for you 💐

I haven’t experienced a miscarriage but had to TFMR and was so desperate to be pregnant again I tried anything. I won’t comment on the success because like I said I haven’t had a miscarriage, but I researched an insane amount in my months TTC and the biggest thing that stuck out to me was that in Canada they give it to every single woman in a fertility clinic.

I’ll obv never know if I would have miscarried without it but all my research made me question why every pregnant woman isn’t just given it.

This is the problem with asking for advice on here. Many docs now don’t prescribe aspirin as new research has shown adverse effects. Go with what your doc says.

Out of the 10 pregnancies I've had, I took aspirin with 2 and they are the only 2 successful pregnancies. If I was to fall pregnant again I would definetly take it again

OneGreenKoala · 17/12/2024 08:30

I took 75mg from the first day of my cycle (under guidance of the consultant I was seeing). After five chemical pregnancies this one has stuck and I am now 14 weeks!

I'm about to turn 42 and 26 weeks pregnant - I was put on low dose aspirin from the beginning mainly as a preventative to pre-eclampsia.
All good so far

I’ve had 2 miscarriages this year, and took baby aspirin during the second pregnancy from a positive test. I’ve since seen a fertility specialist who told me that the thinking now is that, as aspirin is anti-inflammatory, it can interfere with a good implantation (which needs an inflammation response for the embryo to implant nicely in the uterus). She’s told me not to bother taking it next time round as I don’t have any clotting problems. Seems like every doctor has their own thoughts so no idea what is right or wrong 🙈
