I am 22 weeks and have been absolutely fine, then last night out at a resturant and I had a really bad turn. I think I might have got too hot, we were sat near the food counter with the heater lamps. I had to go and sit outside and nearly blacked out and felt so sick. All night since I have not been able to shake the feeling of nausea and this morning am still feeling rough.

Is this just due to overheating or is this something to be more concerned about?

Any reassurance would be great. Am debating calling my midwife, but don't want to be a pain if its just a normal reaction.

Worth calling your mw - might be a prob with bp or iron levels.

shabster · 01/05/2008 08:33

I get like that if I am too hot - mind you I am near the end of the menopause

I would definitly give your midwife a ring - just to check - it cant hurt. She will be able to put your mind at rest. Let us know how you go on.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/05/2008 08:34

Agree quite possibly blood pressure. Def give your mw a call and get her to check it.

Lenafish · 01/05/2008 08:35

Okay, I'll give her a call. Thanks! x

I spoke to my mw who said I probably overheated. To take the day off and rest and keep my fluids up, and if it continues to make an appointment.

I guess I feel reassured, I am a bit of a worrier anyway, so will see how I get on today.

I have been thinking about getting an iron suppliment, but wasn't sure if I really needed it, perhaps now is a good time to do that also.

At least I now have consent to have a day off work and chill out

Thanks for your help ladies, have a good day x

I think at some point soon your iron levels should be tested during a standard blood test - not quite sure when. I had a couple of funny turns like yours and it was down to lowish iron levels - time to eat your greens if you can stomach it!

EffiePerine · 01/05/2008 09:26

That spatone stuff is supposed to be good - it is only sachets of water but high in iron

Pavlovthecat · 01/05/2008 09:28

Dont ever be afraid of calling your MW, even for something she might consider routine or which turns out to be nothing at all. Its what they are there for, and the reassurance helps loads, and if there is a problem it is caught/dealt with immediately.

Agree could be BP. Rest and enjoy the chance to chill out.

Good luck.

I am 29 weeks and actually did faint in a restaurant last week. Husband had to pick me up off the floor, I came round with a waitress standing over us looking very concerned and we paid up and made a quick exit!

I had my blood pressure checked afterwards and I am due to have my bloods checked later today anyway. I have been told not to start an iron supplement until after the blood tests, because of the nausea & constipation they can cause...

Lenafish · 01/05/2008 13:26

Thanks Helenf77. What a scary experience.

I think perhaps I should wait until my next antenatal appointment and get advice from mw about the iron (oh and get lots of roughage in also by the sounds of it SazzlesA )

How are you feeling now? Hope your bloods come back okay.

lenafish - I nearly fainted after getting too hot in the shower recently (am 18 weeks). I have very low blood pressure (80/50 at the last count) and the midwife had warned me about the dangers of fainting, but I hadn't really taken her seriously having done two other pregnancies with low bp. But it's made me aware that I need to be a bit careful - it started by feeling very sick, I tried sitting with my head between my knees but everything went black and I had to lie down. Anyway, I recovered very quickly, after about 5 minutes lying down I felt ok again.

Had a similar experience in an overly heated shop too - just had to walk out.

So ... sorry to waffle on ... if you're still feeling ropey, definitely a good plan to get checked out.

Hi Lenafish- I am still really tired but not fainted again thankfully. Will get blood results next week, but midwife didn't sound concerned at all- she says an isolated faint is usually nothing to worry about.

On the positive side I am getting major sympathy from friends and family, it's nice to be looked after!

I fainted in the shops at 12 weeks in my last pregnancy. I suddenly felt very hot and claustrophobic. I told the girl at the counter that I thought I was going to faint and the next thing I was on the ground. I told my gp and he wasn't at all worried - he just said it was normal and it never happened again.
