currently almost 29 weeks pg with no.2. Feeling well, but do get a bit tired. Considering a short trip (2-3 days)to see friends in Budapest sometime in the next two -three weeks. Flight will be about 2 hours.

Questions:
a) how late in pg are you allowed to fly?
b) do you think I am barmy to even consider it?

thanks in advance

Mother Peculiar

Orangina

was your initial cover with flexicover, or is this a completely separate policy just for this one trip? Sorry if you've already made this clear - I am a bit addled these days...

Had nearly reconciled myself to not going and tbh have so much to do between now and babe arriving it would be the very sensible thing to do.However having never been famed for my good sense I may revise my opinion yet...

motherpeculiar, i have a normal annual multi trip worldwide travel insurance policy, BUT it won't cover me for travel during after 26 weeks of pregnancy. I think if my suitcases etc get lost, I'm still ok, but I think the fact that I am 28 weeks pg means that even if I fall and break my leg, the whole health care element is nullified due to pg state (!). The flexicare one is a one-off policy, valid for the 12 days of my travel, and I have taken it out specifically for this post 26 weeks pg trip. If you were going for just a weekend, then I should think yours would be cheaper. There is a customer service number on the website, which might be able to answer specific queries....? I know what you mean about your brain feeling addled.... I think I'm driving dh mad with just NOT taking things in that he's told me minutes/hours/days before...! Would always travel with insurance these days, but if you are feeling well generally and you're having no problems with your pg, then a hungarian break sounds like a very good thing indeed!
Hope I've been clear, my communication skills aren't getting any better as time goes on... !

initial cover with someone like norwich union, not flexicare (your original question which I completely failed to answer!) sorry....!

motherpeculiar · 13/01/2005 18:06

Thanks sweetie - you sound almost as addled as me!!!

looks like I'll be checking Flexicover out then...

good luck and happy travels (fingers crossed)!

orangina, are there details of this special pregnancy cover on flexicover's website? Can't find it. Just wanted to have something to show dh.

orangina · 14/01/2005 08:59

franch, no there isn't.... what you end up with in the end is an ordinary fully comprehensive travel insurance (can't tell you what their line is on cancellations etc, you might have to call them on their customer service number for that...), that CONTINUES to cover you while you are pg, where other policies (eg Norwich Union) won't. I know that British Airways also do a specific pg cover, but they were much more £££. Something like £55 instead of £28. I would suggest that you call them on 0870 990 9292 (office hours only), which I THINK is the customer service number. Good luck!

Sorry, forgot to add, you also get a special certificate which you get sent through the post that confirms that you have had your medical screening (the telephone job), and I think it is THIS piece ofpaper that makes your policy valid for pregnancy, if that makes sense. Motherpeculiar, if you are reading, this piece of paper takes longer to come through than the e-mail obviously (about 5 working days?), but I think you only need it for a claim, not your actual travel.
Again, hope I'm making sense, I'm still not fully awake yet this morning!

orangina · 14/01/2005 09:12

sorry, last ps: under their terms and conditions, pregnancy is defined as a "pre-existing medical condition" (!), hence the declaration and the screen. Presumably would be the same if you have any other conditions.....

Thanks orangina, really helpful
