My consultant has booked me for an induction on my due date as I’m considered high risk due to previous PPH and baby measuring large so they don’t want me to go over.
They agreed I could start having sweeps from 37 weeks to see if that could start labour off before being induced.
i was just wondering if anyone had any experience of having a sweep at 37/38 weeks and if it was successful at starting things off?
I’m keen to avoid having another induction as this can increase chances of another PPH and the closer it gets the more anxious I’m getting about it happening again

Not 37/38 weeks but I had one at 39 weeks and had my daughter the next day. Good luck 🤞

I had 3 sweeps around the 39 week mark I think, was also keen to avoid induction. It worked for me and I was in labour when I went in for my agreed induction date. I think 37 weeks is quite early though for a sweep? Also brace yourself and be prepared, my god that first one was so painful and I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. Felt in shock after so just want you to be prepared then it might be easier for you. Good luck!

I think at 37 weeks a sweep isn't as likely to work as later on as your body might not be ready.
With my first I had sweeps from 37 weeks and they didn't do anything. I was induced 38 weeks and had him at 39 weeks.
Also big baby with my second now but declining induction till due date at least.

It's only going to work if your body is somewhat ready itself which unfortunately is unlikely at 37 weeks. It's quoted in the research that about 1 in 8 will work (but how many of these would've laboured themselves anyway is impossible to say.) I had sweeps from 37 weeks onwards due to anxiety just wanted to see if I could get things going but equally didn't really want induction.. and still went to 41 weeks and got induced🤦🏼‍♀️

I had two, they did nothing for me.

thanks everyone for your responses, I had a sweep yesterday at bang on 37 weeks due to reduced movement … it’s been 24 hours and nothing exciting has happened 😂 the midwife said I was 1cm dilated and it didn’t hurt to do the sweep
i have had lots of brown discharge/spotting but that’s about all
i I have another one booked for Wednesday, not optimistic about it working but it’s worth a go I guess!

Hi there it's a labour ward midwife. There's limited evidence sweeps do work. Sometimes. It's your 2nd baby. If you had a vaginal delivery in the past you have a very good chance in going into labour once your waters are broken. PPH is also less likely with the 2nd baby, in my experience. I suggest you go for as many walks as you can and try not to think what might or might not happen. Good luck!

Thanks @InNeedofAdvice1234
i’ve been keeping as active as I can, all day today I have been getting gooey/stringy brown discharge as well as some clear discharge with the same consistency
could this be the mucus plug mixed with old blood?

My DC was born at 37+2 after a sweep the previous day for obstetric cholestasis. I had already lost my mucus plug though. Waters went first then labour about 15 hours later.

I hope so. Regarding the clear discharge- if you suspect at all your waters might have broken- please ring your maternity assessment unit to rule it out. Intact waters are natural barrier to infection. Good luck

I had one at 37+5 and baby was born at 2 days later.
