Hi! Does anyone have anyyyyyyyy natural ways they healed constant reflux?

i had a 16 week loss so I am VERY apprehensive about taking omezaprol as I’ve seen everyone recommend but I just don’t think I dare as my anxiety is debilitating this pregnancy.

i tried rennies and gaviscon and sometimes it helps but honestly the thought of gaviscon actually makes me throw up I hate it so much.

I feel like I have phlegm constantly in the back of my throat.

is there any sort of drink or food or movement that could help.

Sorry I know everhone says go to the GP but I’d just love to know if anyone knows any other way. I’m too paranoid at the moment so if I did end up with another 16 week loss or worse I’d blame that tablet and its risks.

I have GORD so I'm on meds daily. While pregnant, it was actually the first symptom I had. because it "broke through" the meds. I couldn't even have tomato sauce because it's too acidic.

Basically, your body is failing to properly balance your stomach acid levels.

You can try and minimise your highly acidic foods, but don't stop them all together as it can cause the same issue as your body tries to overcompensate.

There are other meds besides omeprazole. I tried one that was twice a day (Ranitidine I think it was) it was useless. They then switched me to pantoprazole which is safe for pregnancy and it worked just as well as omeprazole. I'm still on it now, 8 years later.

Fizzy water was the only thing that relieved it for short periods for me, and sleeping propped up pretty much upright. I'd have bottles of fizzy water next to bed, in bathroom, downstairs, on the bookshelf. I could only stomach instant mash or ready brek.

I ate an awful lot of Love Hearts!

Your baby is already fully developed and using a drug at this stage will not cause a structural birth defect. PPIs are widely used in pregnancy. You should speak to your GP but if you need it, being pregnant isn't a reason to avoid it

I’d read somewhere that it can be linked to learning difficulties but mostly seen it was ok

I don't mean this to be bragging, but my son is in the 90th percentile, top 3 in his glass/grade. He had absolutely no ill-effects of be being on PPIs while pregnant.

Try "Tums" from amazon.

I was on omeprazole before pregnancy but my symptoms broke through my dosage when I was in my 1st trimester. I struggled on Rennies etc for months. Gaviscon made me throw up at simply the smells (I tried different tastes)

Eventually tried Tums when I was about 4 months and it was a wonder.

Now 9 months and have been off omeprazole for months, take 2 Tums before any large or acid inducing meal (think tomatoes for me...) and occasionally some after a meal if needed. You can take up to 4 in one sitting, and 6 over the course of a day in pregnancy.

I get acid really bad whilst pregnant, currently still dealing with it! Mine doesn’t ease off until baby is born
peptac works in the early days but doesn’t anymore and the only thing that helps is a cold, thick milkshake … not the worst remedy and I’ll take a chocolate milkshake over peptac any day. Admittedly not the healthiest option but needs must!

TYSM for the reassurance! I feel like women’s health is so under researched I have to do my own 😂 this puts my mind at ease!

I was on omeprazole with my first pregnancy and all seems fine (LG is almost 2). Bumps is the NHS website to check - no suggestion of any links with learning disabilities or other disabilities. Some unproven suggestion it could cause asthma or allergies but most babies exposed to it didn’t have. The website gives some alternative suggestions on how to reduce reflux if you still don’t want to go on the meds though.
