Baby Movement Stopped

I'm probably overthinking but thought I'd come on here and ask anyway...
First pregnancy so this is unusual as it is but I started feeling movement at 17w4d, and it was proper wriggling around and kicks, others could also feel it. It was happening constantly throughout the day, it almost made me feel a bit nauseous it was so much lol.
I am now 19w2d and I have felt NO movement for the last 3 days. I know people are going to say it is very early to feel movement etc, but it's just making me nervous. I feel silly if I call someone about it as I am classed as very early to feel movement and I'm not very far gone.
To top it all off I have had my 20 week scan cancelled next week due to rearranging appointments and won't find out my next scan date or time till this Friday latest, so it's just very uncertain at the minute.
I already feel silly as it is so if that's what you want to tell me please don't🙁

It is early. Baby has probably just turned over and is facing your back so you can't feel them anymore.

If you can book a private scan for reassurance I would but otherwise just keep in mind how teeny tiny baby is right now and it's 10 weeks ish before movements become established.

Thisisnotmyid · 09/12/2024 15:52

If any change is unusual for you then you call someone and ask to be checked, either your midwife, your early pregnancy centre or whatever number is in the back of your book.

YouveGotAFastCar · 09/12/2024 15:54

It is really early to be feeling movement, so it's very likely that baby (who is still really small, they've got room to be doing somersaults at 20 weeks!) has just moved about.

But if you're worried, call your midwife triage number. They'll likely invite you in for monitoring to check on baby and reassure you, although some Trusts won't do that until post 20/22 weeks.

Drink a glass of something very cold (water, for some reason they say orange juice) quite quickly and see if you feel anything. Jump up and down in a way that jiggles your abdomen, see if you feel anything. Be very still after you do those two things.

If you still feel nothing call your midwife, tell him/her it's been three days, you've done the above things and can't feel anything. You should be sent for a scan as soon as one can be scheduled. Good luck.

Go and get checked today by triage. You need to call and be seen every single time there is a change in movement, even if its early. Good luck x

Thank you for the replies- as I have said I know it is early to feel movement, but what I have been feeling isn't tiny little movements, it has been that strong that my partner and family have been able to feel it too.
I will try the cold drink suggestion and anything else before I call as I now feel even sillier to call up, I don't want to waste anyone's time xx

You're not wasting anyone's time. At less than 24 weeks you can ask the community midwife to have a listen in to put your mind at rest. It's probably due to baby changing position but always always get checked for any change in pattern. Trust your instincts

mumzy67 · 09/12/2024 16:05

@LozC0411 you will not be wasting anyone's time! It is what is usual for you and your pregnancy not others! I have always been told they would prefer to see me as many times as needed and everything be fine rather than me take that risk that one time and something be wrong. Ring up triage and speak to them x

NewBoyMama · 09/12/2024 16:06

Hi!

Midwife here. You are NEVER wasting anyone's time by calling up for advice, especially when it comes to your baby's movements.
No matter what you are worrying about, always call your midwife/hospital to talk to someone.

Please call your hospital (not community midwife) to be checked over.

Will be thinking of you and wishing you all the best with the pregnancy x

WickWood · 09/12/2024 16:33

Please just call up and get seen now, you're the only person who can advocate for your baby. You know your baby better than anyone else x

Hope you’re doing ok @LozC0411. I am 22 weeks and have just had a really similar experience. I hadn’t felt any movement over the last 2 days having had loads over the last couple of weeks.

If it helps to reassure you, I went in even though it’s early and the midwives were very happy to have a listen into the baby’s heartbeat. It was such a normal thing to them even though I’m still in 2nd trimester and felt a bit silly so definitely go for it, I feel so much better for hearing the heartbeat.

They also said that I shouldn’t expect to feel anything regularly until 27 weeks and that even one movement a day is ok between now and then. Definitely worth getting checked to hear the heartbeat and the midwives reassurance.

Agree with others, if you're nervous and worried, call up for some advice. They will likely invite you in for monitoring or the midwife will have a listen with a doppler.

I'm sure it's fine, baby is literally teeny tiny at this stage with plenty of room to change positions and tuck into little nooks and crannies. That can make a big difference to what you can feel.
Once you get closer to the 3rd trimester you should find they settle into a position as they have less room in there so it's much easier to identify a pattern.
I'm 24 weeks and still have days of feeling very little compared with other days where the movements are much stronger and more frequent.
I do think we're getting into more of a routine over this past week though.
