High ketones in urine?

I had my 16 week midwife appointment yesterday and I had ketones in my urine. She didn’t seem too concerned, said I may be hungry or thirsty, but when I looked on Dr. Google it said about gestational diabetes. I have been concerned about this due to some symptoms, and subsequently have my GTT next week.

I’ve eaten quite a bit today and tested my pee at home (I have the ketone sticks from when I had hyperemesis) and my ketones are high this evening. Is there anything I need to/should be doing? Is this dangerous or something to worry about? Thanks

I had Ketones in my urine at my 34 week midwife appointment. I'd already had a GTT at 28 weeks and it negative. My last midwife appointment at 36 weeks came back completely normal. My midwife said sometimes ketones in urine can be something as simple as skipping a meal. If your GTT is next week then at least you will know either way, but I wouldn't keep testing at home because it will worry you possibly unnecessarily.

I had high ketones up until 16 weeks of my current pregnancy. I was barely eating due to sickness and lost a lot of weight.

My Gestational Diabetes came back fine and negative. Just to give you reassurance Gestational diabetes is also quite common with hyperemesis, and when managed really easily controlled with diet. It also disappears right after the birth 90 percent of the time.
